anyone got an exact or nearish date.

I;m on BBC radio cambs this Easter Monday 12 to 2pm doing a "ROOTS OF NORTHERN SOUL IN CAMBRIDGESHIRE" with Ian Gray, Smudge and Tony dellar and it would help me with a specific date i need for some research.

It won't be a show for the conniseur just a light hearted look at the old haunts and tunes and a few funny storys.

The show can be listend to on line if youre interested https://www.bbc.co.uk/england/radiocambridgeshire/

without doubt the best live act to have appeared there absolutely blew me away, what made it even more astounding was the show was nearly cancelled because she had such a severe throat infection she could hardly talk on the day of the gig, somebody should bring her back over to appear at one of the weekenders, did anyone go to one of edwin starrs early appearances at the casino, possibly '74,had a really funky backing band called TCB later went on to fame and fortune as rose royce

Is it true Betty was not wearing any knickers that night on stage? :) I was far to young to be there.

All best, Kev.

Mick, the first Edwin Starr show I saw at Wigan was October 74, I think, not long after 1st Anniversary. Always a great performer, plus the usual 2 extra hours when a live act was on. Happy days!!!!

I was at the Betty Wright night aswell, although didnt really watch the show as we'd already seen her midweek at Reading Top Rank, a great show though.

sounds bang on alan, haven't really kept any memorabilia but do remember edwin starr inviting some of the dancers on stage just to watch them spin, remember being disapointed with jackie wilson's appearance and walking off up to M's but as we later found out he was really ill at the time, that was '75 wasn't it?

I havent any memorabilia from that either, got Edwin Starr photos from other shows etc. Jackie Wilson was May 75, disappointing, but i remember dancing on a table on the balcony - high on life maybe!! I have a good Jackie Wilson live photo, black & white, will try to scan it & post up.

Alan

did Betty wright do the Casino twice as these dates aren't stacking up in these parts?

Paul,

The night i remember her performing was definitely April 75, not long before Jackie Wilson night.

What a night that was the "clean up woman" live at Wigan Casino. She sang her heart out and the atmosphere was electric it helped that "Where is the love" was really popular at most venues at the time.

It was the best live performance I've seen at an allnighter.

Great days.

Saw Betty Wright on a Wednesday evening at Colwyn Bay pier then on the Saturday at the Casino, two brill nights. With regards Jackie Wilson, I think the problem was that we didn't appreciate him at the time, all we wanted was the Who Who Song etc, were Jackie's show didn't include that track or others we wanted to hear but some of his earlier tracks, again I saw Jackie perform at Colwyn Bay on a Wednesday evening prior to his show on the Saturday at the Casino. Looking back I don't think the promotors were as good at booking the acts as they are today, most come over and sing what we know them for, were back in the days of the Casino quite often they hadn't a clue about their own (Lost) music and just sang their hits and cover versions of Soul hits. Also some of the backing bands were quite awful were today they hadly miss a beat. :)
