Slight digression but for years me and my mates all thought the Admirations 'You Left Me' was called 'Two Left Feet'...and since it was quite hard to dance to, too, it sort of made sense! Doh!

Guest in town Mikey

Chandlers - Your love makes me lonely whistling.gif

Melba Moore - Magic Touch

Also:

Ty Karim - Lighen Up, and Art Freeman - Slipping Around, just because due to reasons beyond my control, I had to flog them to get the money. I break down a gibbering wreck whenever I hear them now ph34r.gif

Actually Wendy, I once tore up the floor to the entire long version of "Move On Up" . I was at a restaurant that had a do once a month in Baltimore, where the DJ played all sorts of odd music. Well, he decides to put a few soul numbers on that were funk, but then he puts on "Move On Up" and I took full advantage of actually hearing a northern soul song in a place where I could dance. I had no talc and was wearing sneakers, so I emptied a couple packets of sweet-n-low onto the floor. People were watching me and didn't know what to make of what I was doing either. Also, they were such ultra-hip pretensious art student types that they didn't want to look stupid by asking me WTF I was doing out there. Honestly, I couldn't even see people around me most of the time. It was just me and the song. I went for it for the entire length and was a sweaty mess by the end. Just another situation where I'm the only person in 1000 miles that knows northern soul. As for the dancing, it's definitely too fast for any shuffling. Just a lot of sliding and acrobatics, really. You can't do regimented northern steps, but there's more freedom to it. BTW-nice avatar.

Anyway....back to the topic:

FAST

Velvet Satins-Nothing can Compare to You (odd tempo)

Jewels-We Got Togetherness (the mix is bad on that one. The beat needs to be more upfront.)

SLOW

Ray Pollard-The Drifter (too SLOOOOW. Killer track, though)

Charlie McCoy & the Escorts-My Baby's Back Again

But I'll do my best out there on the floor.

KTF

props to you JazzyJas for making it the whole way through the 'extended mix' version of Move On Up. christ! i think it's the bongos that throws the whole thing for me...but as for The Jewels - We've Got Togetherness - r.e. the drums n all - are you joking? that has got to be one of the most demented rhythmic track EVER, it just goes THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP, try dancing to the bassline instead of listening for the drums - it's a headbanger...

your avatar is classy, go you!

You're gonna wreck my life - Guitar Ray mais oui

ok just a question but how is this hard to dance to? I know it's about the 4867474 time we talk about this record but actually this is one i even play at more mainstream events and it works almost 90% of the times really good on the dance floor.. whistling.gif

I would say:

Chandlers "your love makes me lonely"

Masqueraders "how big is big"

*but i don't think this one was intended to dance to

best

Brendetta Davis was played at the Valatone last Saturday.

Personally I can dance to several of the tracks mentioned, e.g. Guitar Ray, Masqueraders, even if it is a slow shuffle to the latter.

I heard the Three Degrees' Contact at Va Va Voom, and I don't think that is an easy track to dance to, although I've never heard it played anywhere else.

Incidentally is it a 60s or 70s track?

At the Mousetrap once, when Muddy Waters' Mannish Boy came on, the floor cleared except for a certain Paul Secular, who strode onto the floor to give it some in a Jazz/Blues/Soul combo- whilst scores of Mods looked on. To my complete surprise he never got his head kicked in for looking like a twat, but actually pulled it off and looked rather dapper at the same time.

As for me, The Showmen- Country Fool, amongst many others.......
