Mentioned once before how 'Spiral Staircase - More Today Than Yesterday ' always sounds better in the Summer, so thought i would try & start a thread of favourite Northern Soulful Summer Sounds.

So i will start the ball rolling with this oldie by Ben Aiken on Loma, summer is on it's way !

Spiral Staircase sound's a lot worse today than yesterday(When it sounded crap!) If you ask me(and who did you may ask)

The only version of this song I like is Patti Austin's

I always felt that

"Groovin'" by The Young Rascals &

"Oh How Happy" Shades of Blue

were great Summer time tunes from the 60's.

William DeVaughn "Be Thankful For What You've Got" takes some beating though.

Diamond In The Back, Sunroof Top,

Diggin The Scene, With a Gangsta Lean,

Oh Yeh!

Found a few more "Summer titles":

David Sea - Angel You're The Sunshine (Jaye)

Persuasions - Summer Ride (Erica)

Brighter Side of Darkness - Summer Ride (20th Century)

The Dramatics - Hello Summer (Crackerjack)

Albert Jones - It's Going To Be A Lovely Summer (Tri-City)

Plus a few without Summer in the title but always make me think of a sunny day.

Archie Bell - My Balloon's Going Up (Atlantic)

Phillip Mitchell - The World Needs More People Like You (Jay Boy/Shout)

Freddie Waters - Singing A New Song (Curtom/Buddah)

If it were though these would sound especially good:

Someday - Tempests

Owt from What's Goin On but especially the title track

Why can't we live together - Timmy Thomas

Be thankful for what you've got - Anyone's even Massive Attack's

I used to love a record called "Summer comes along' it was on a brilliant tape I had that I think was made by Robin Salter, was it sung by Darryl Pettiford ?, I cant remember. It was a great tape tho, all big soulful independant sounds circa 1985, There was another track called 'Day by Day' by Joseph Cotton - does anyone know either of these tunes ?
