Mal C Posted February 27, 2013 Share Posted February 27, 2013 1982, Arden high school birmingham, class 1c, early morning break seeing all my class mates in fish tail Parkers, then the Kent lp's started the rounds, especially in music lessons where you were invited to bring your own music in, I borrowed 'soul class of 66' of my mate bazer... And I've never looked back,,,,, the tommy hunt LP took effort though, but I tried and tried and eventually I gained taste, if that makes sense... Hard work when your up against madness and DM clad skin heads..... I've never liked skin heads...even now, but I think it was different in Birmingham back then, they sided with rude boys and zulu's (blues fans) especialy up the bull ring...and young mods were easy prey... BCFC Zulus in the Mander centre? Birmingham never came into the centre, they attacked the George once, but apart from that, everything was down Broad Street, Thorley Street and near Carvers. I didn't miss a home Wolves game from 1976 to 1983 so I saw lots of goings on of that type. There were certainly fights between Mods and Skins (Secret Affair gig), Punks and Skins (Skids gig) and all 3 (Specials/Madness/Selecter)... Yeah sorry, did think you were referring to BCFC fans. Saw a big fight between blacks and skins outside HMV once, biggest one though was when Wolves played Newcastle United last game of the season can't remember the year but Newcastle bought thousands down and they stayed in the town and had massive battles with black youths, it was literally a riot, fortunately I'd got on the 265 and was back in Wombourne before it kicked off Link to comment Social source share More sharing options...

Ha Ha We had lots of runs in with Stoke throughout the 80's and early 90's but the one I remember the most was at the old Victoria ground, last match of the season possibly 1982? We needed to win to stay up, we lost and were relegated, there was the biggest toe to toe I've ever seen outside (might have been on a car park side of the ground) must have lasted a good 5 minutes with at least 100 on each side. When we got on the train, there were loads of Stokies on the bridges and they let loose a rain of bricks and half the windows came in. Gold Band Posted February 27, 2013 Share Posted February 27, 2013 (edited) 73ish had enough of Glam Rock started Travelling around 76 bit naughty at 14 but hey some of us had to be adventurous & it was duly noted that not all at the time were happy with the youth club brigade getting into the serious side of the music, afraid to say that after kids it took a back burner but were all human (I Hope) so yes considered a born again soul fan I suppose there's a pigeon hole for everything now days but now I'm able to travel again its FANFECKINGTASTIC. Scotters Posted March 1, 2013 Share Posted March 1, 2013 Guess I'm not surprised to see a low number on here starting their Northern love affair this last 10 years or so (me included) but I must admit I didn't expect the number to be quite so low. I know from the nights etc I've been to that this looks to be a fairly true reflection, although I'm sure it's different in the cities and maybe Europe. Seems crazy that so many are missing out, but each to their own I guess and all we can do is spend time with people who show a genuine interest, as a few good souls did with me...and they continue to do so...passing on "the knowledge" and stuff. I told them my sisters had leaded me the way to rock “n” roll. So they asked would I take a gamble and would I go to a club with them called the Dungeon. I thought what the heck I’ll give it a go. Feb1966/7 was my first taste of what they said were the mod scene two floors playing soul music back ground sound was from a black American group the Supremes. Never forget the thrill seeing a full dance floor with atmosphere I had never felt. In 1966/7, the same guys were told of a club in Sheffield called the King Mojo, it was a converted house on the out skirts of the city centre. They asked are we up for it being on a low wage I was unable, so they all clubbed together and said now you can we will pick you up at 7:00. All 6 were listened to the radio drinking Mansfield nut-brown in a mini van. Never looked back Just a babe in arms.!! 1974 Wigan,my first all nighter.Dipped my toe in on and off,Mecca,Clee,alldayers etc,, then...
