Tried to avoid reference to early Motown and other general release stuff that gets played out, thought the idea was to go for classic main stream soul that doesn't get played at "our" clubs (i.e. broad church interpretation) ?

There's loads, but this would always be in the top ten...

Along with this one....

Those two take me right back to the Cats Whiskers!  :D

The place where one night I finally built up the courage to approach a young lady I'd had my eye on for a while, my mates new this so they watched me swagger over to her, spots popping involuntarily as I walked.......................................................got a f*ck off tablet, needless to say

.......and as I made my way back over to the lads, the DJ played "I don't blame you at all" -  Smokey & the Miracles!!! :(

Got the p*ss ripped out of me every time that record came on for ages after.

Ok, the Curtis Mayfield thread has got me thinking. As we all know on the rare soul scene we are always after ever more elusive and obscure tracks to listen to and dance to. Sometimes in this quest, I feel we can overlook or forget about many of the quality mainstream soul offerings out there. I am not on about northern soul classics here, I am on about big chart hits here. Please feel free to post your favorites.

Curtis does top it for me, but only just...

Sticking to original premise so have gone with UK top 20 hits and tried to pick sounds not already posted

Misty Blue - Dorothy Moore

Young Hearts Run Free - Candi Staton

Private Number - William Bell & Judy Clay

Still Water (Love) - Four Tops

Ball of Confusion - Temptations
