Unlimited Four - I wanna be happy - Chanson

Lenny Williams - Since I met you - Motown

Tyrone Davis - You keep me holding on - Dakar

Ovations - I'm in love - MGM

Doris Duke - The feeling is right - Canyon

All in great nick and all bought for under a fiver in the last 12 months - definately bargains to be had of great tunes!

Lonely Girl - Miss Madeline - Mar-v-lus, gets my recommendation as a quality cheapie.  Or by Young Folk on the same label - the exact same version with Madeline Strickland lead vocal.

   both have great "b" sides as well

JJ Barnes - Now She's Gone/Hold On To It is always on ebay at criminally low prices. Staying on Revilot; Parliaments' - The Goose.

My best  shop buy this  year: Main Ingredient - Life Won't be The Same on UK RCA. Not rare obviously but  I was pleased to get a near mint copy for a fiver in old London town.

That's always my choice as well but £5 is too cheap for that, I sell it for £15 now

Loads of great cheap classics of course. Jackie Wilson is good for a few, and I'd pick Whispers with it being not far off a fiver.

Then there's some terrific northern on Motown - love Martha & Vandellas, and both One Way Out and Gotta Let You Go have been favourites for a long time.

Could go on forever as there loads of great fiver tunes.

My fave buy for a fiver & not usually my type stuff is Milt Matthews-Trust Me H & R Records.........just awesome.

Cheers

Very nice track with a great ballad flip, 'Oh I Can't Believe You're Gone', reviewed in Black Echoes when new in 1978, and the follow-up 'Stop That Train' / 'This Is My Song' - all of which featured on the album.

Doesn't seem like 35 years ago and still sounds great today.

I also love his brilliant 1974 Bryan 45 'All These Changes' which was issued here on London.

"‹Here's a great example of a £5 record which really puts values into perspective ...

LAURA LEE - (If You Want To Try Love Again) Remember Me (Hot Wax)

To me it's priceless, I must have played this a million times since I was a teenager (as with many other Laura Lee tracks) and it always makes me feel good and should fill any dancefloor at any event.

This is a great thread because poor people can join in.

When we bought records with our school dinner money we were far more selective because it obviously didn't make a lot of sense to almost starve yourself to death for a second-rate 45 or LP.

We were hungry and skinny but we certainly had good taste in music.

Guest Dave Turner

One for those who like to occupy a less energetic dance floor

Being the flip to "Soul Sister, Brown Sugar" you'll probably get 4 quid change from a fiver
