:hatsoff2:HI ALL. IT'S BEEN 40 YEARS SINCE THE TORCH CLOSED, IN THE SUMMER OF 73, THERE WAS A BIG CHANGE ON THE RRRARE SOUL SCENE, WHEN THE TORCH CLOSED, FOR MANY IT WAS THE END OF RARE SOUL, WITTH IT

Another cheapo, I suppose the reason why it never broke cover. Add to William Bell's Happy and The Man in The Street; You got the kind of love I need (Stax LP and 45):

I,ve been buying soul records for 40 years and sorry to say apart from the. Concert In Blues album and the Northern faves Willie Hutch was under my radar then I bought a cd of his Motown stuff and the

:hatsoff2: HI ALL,  HERES ONE THAT YOU MAY OFF OVERLOOKED  YES IT'S TRUE. BUT DON'T WORRY AS YOU WILL LOVE THIS GREAT B SIDE FROM 1969 (the SPIRIT OF).

What can I say about this gem,

Well the backing track, has been used on more recordings, than TEDDY VAN'S "BEUTIFUL PLACE", AND ALL VERSIONS SOUND GREAT IN SOUL or REGGAE STYLE,.

IF YOU LIKE, AS THEY SAY UP T NORTH - THIS IS PART A) FOR MY GIVE AWAY COMP).

a) can you name 5 records that have sampled the backing with artist,

write it down save it, and add it to the next question, 3 in all, you could get my old Frankie & classical on UK PHILLIPS, WHATEVER YOU WIN IT'S BETTER THANN THE BIN?

Driving Beat in Leeds for me tonight, one of my favourite nights.Be good to see what the young un's are up to,always different with a brilliant, vibrant atmosphere & always some awesome tunes played.

So on that note I thought I'd dig a forgotten oldie out that I heard played at Bradford last week & it sounded brill

DUE TO WORK COMMITMENTS (SERVING IN THE RN ) THE FIRST 4 YEARS OF WIGAN PASSED ME BY BUT BOY DID I MAKE UP FOR IT AFTER THEN.

THIS IS ONE OF THE FIRST TUNES I HEARD THERE LITTLE ARCHIE ALL I DO

KEV

Strange isn't it?We would have been going to Wigan about the same time & this isn't a tune I associate with Wigan......that means nothing as lots of my memories see to have all merged into one night

Lots of people say they remember the record that was playing when they walked in,not me,the things I remember was the coach journey, forging a membership card, people I went with, the pushing & shoving to get in (loved that)...........but not what was played..........bloody chemicals

Cheers

This is a mighty fine piece of soul music & the guy's got a great voice but I can only listen to one or two deep soul tracks before I get bored.............I'm a slave to the beat I suppose  :g:

I always knew Hull lads had no musical taste at all. Your olda'bro obviously has a better ear !?!?!   :P

(though you can listen to the occasional deep soul cut, so all's not lost yet).

I call this Brit-Pop-Soul.

Nevertheless always had a soft spot for those Ivor Raymond arrangements.

Can't afford the original Wade Flemons version, though I've always admired it greatly.

Are there any other versions knocking about?

Slap your legs, yes you can afford a Wade F version, paid about £27 for my issue, took me awhile but they are out there.Wade's version was a massive play at Wilton & other nighters in the 90t's still sends a shiver down my spine when I hear it.

This is OK but really there isn't another version worth listening to after you've heard Wade sorry.

Mm, edit that. It was RCA - Richard Searling was working for themm at the time and had a hand in it I think. As well as writing the sleevenotes.

Remember my mate winning a copy of Jumping At The Go Go LP at an RCA promotion night at Unity Hall nighter about 77,RS was running that.

RS got stopped from djing at Unity Hall as it was affecting attendance at Wigan as at that time it was the only place in the country where you could hear Soul Sam & RS on the same line-up.

As you know Martyn the book value is much higher than 2o odd quid.

I have bid on a few but no luck at $30 which is about my limit.

A great tune, though how it ended up being covered by a UK pop artist

is a complete mystery.

Still a good version.

I know Mick but keep looking I'm sure you'll be in the right place at the right time for a cheap un.Seems to be plenty of Demo's about but not so many issues,so was well chuffed to get one of those.
