This track was masterminded (song written, backing done, arranged & produced -- though the 45 label says the label owners handled production) by Cleveland transplant and Sci-Fi fan Billy Wells. The backing musicians were his band, the Outer Realm (aka the Invaders).

Very interesting thanks for that..

Just checked the label and sure enough it states Billi Welles (sic) and Outer Realm Unlimited.

Wee Gee's "Hold On To Your Dreams" was a US Cotillion single in 79 & LP title track in 80.

In the early 80's I lived in Worksop & a Nottinghamshire discount store chain back then was FORDS.

For some reason the chain bought in loads of cut-out US LP's around the mid 80's and they had multiple copies of this LP (+ loads of other good soul offerings). They sold the albums at 19p (maybe 29p) each and I bought a copy of every soul album they had in my local store.

They had about 50 to 100 copies of Wee Gee's album (& their other stores had similar numbers of it) -- should have bought 6 to 10 copies at that price & salted then away for a few years before selling em on.

Another cheapo, I suppose the reason why it never broke cover.

Add to William Bell's Happy and The Man in The Street;

You got the kind of love I need (Stax LP and 45):

So, my record of the day for today is..Spooky & Sue - I Got The Need.   IMHO much better than Chuck Jackson's version

Don't usually do the anorak thing about,demo,issue,first release etc. as long as it's an original I'm OK with that but I make an exception in this case?I've already got a copy of this on Vee Jay( which is now for for sale) but my mate had a mint copy on the first release on Hunter,it's only the second one I've ever seen & looked beautiful.........sad I know & I need to get a life but it does.When I asked how much knowing how rare it is I was amazed how cheap he had it at,so after fluttering my eyelashes at the boss & raiding my piggie bank it's mine.........it does help it's kin brilliant dancer.

Mm, forgot about this Swifty. I'd never even heard this version until quite recently - I think there was a thread about it, might have been Ian D.

The spoken intro is extremely cool.
