Ty Karim You Just Don't Know C/w All In Vain

The Queen of West Coast rare-soul, most-wanted 45!

A lady who’s vocal prowess has seduced more rare-soul collectors into digging deep into their pockets than any other. As to own everything this Soul Queen has ever pressed to vinyl, is and always will be one of the top-quests for serious collectors, as her far to few release, are all rare momentous recordings.

To quote DJ Harboro Horace’s notes from the recently release 12 track album tribute “Ty’s Voice can be as tough as teak or as seductive as an A-List Hollywood heartthrob”

This offering in MINT condition, sits at the very pinnacle of her all her rare work.

Voomins March Of The Voomins C/w If You Don't Come Back

Capturing the true mood of the British MODS of 1964 -

presumably this outrageously effective instrumental was a shot across the bows of The Executives and Joe Loss’s awfully wide of the mark “March Of The Mods”; As The Voomins hit dead-center capturing the very essence of early cult movement of MOD!

With the flipside showing off a R&B influenced lead singer who with wishes to be “black” but his unconvincing snarling only underlines the groundswell of appreciation for black music driving the MOD club scene forward.

This 1964 British release is in stunning near Mint - condition and still living in it’s birth sleeve of near 50 years, and saturated in the 1964 mood of MOD lift-off!

I - 20 Connection Dreamin'

RARE late 70s Georgia soulful dance from the desk of Calvin Arnold.

Calvin was most probably inspired by the best Philadelphia production as the fuses jazz with strong orchestra strings enhancing the uplifting rhythm. Very like Billy Paul’s work in style and deliver as the arrangement twists and jerks around delivering a powerful dance production.

PERFECT for today’s rare-soul dance scene - classy, precise and VERY RARE!

this elusive disc has a few light surface marks but as you hear throughout te compelling 3 minutes it plays without any distractions!

LOVE IT!

Nicky C & The Chateaux Those Good Times C./w Try Some Soul

RARE!

Uplifting horn-driven vocal-group Northern Soul from Baltimore. This has to be not only the most-elusive but also most-exhilarating tune on the label. One of those 3 minutes that just leave feeling, so very much better for hearing it.

Having said that you just don’t hear it enough, rarity has stunted it’s growth, thus stifling dance-floor awareness. Imagine something as instant as this hitting the decks full volume; of say Kings Hall, Stoke or Prestatyn - we think it would intensify the atmosphere by a notch or two.

A real elusive sleeper with glaring potential for a much-bigger ticket than the perceived value.

Truly fabulous, under-played proper-style Northern Soul in pristine condition.

Tony Daniels I Won't Cry

Prodigious Detroit Northern Soul from the desk of Donald “Cool Jerk” Storball a man who had the influence to entice Motown’s “Funk Brothers” into sometimes moonlighting on his tracks.

Here’s another “Storball” session soaked in the Motor City sound; essentially a grassroots vocal group recording credited to a single artist. As a full male vocal harmony backs Tony Daniels despairing wailing’s through the full length of this masterful Northern Soul dancer.

Saturated in pure raw soul, woven into a rich arrangement - this is Detroit Northern Soul straight off the streets.

Condition is absolutely astonishingly flawless!

Oscar Toney Jr. Ain't That True Love C/w For Your Precious Love

June 1967 FIRST British press DEMO.

Yes this Twisted Wheel classic, just like Darrell Banks on Stateside, came out more than once on the same Stateside 2033 to keep up with demand created by All Nite Club spins, which of course turned this Memphis flipside into a Northern Soul classic.

Oscar Toney’s first release for the doughty Papa Don Schroeder who was aided by some of the best musicians Memphis could provide. Tommy Cogbill on Bass Guitar driving the rhythm, Gene Chrisman - Drums , Bobby Emmons - keyboards and Bill Black Combo’s Reggie Young on his renown guitar. What a gathering of talent who from the first note to the last, belt out a tumultuous 60s dance performance.

You may be surprised that at the time, this mighty production lay hidden on a flipside - but once you hear Oscar’s, Papa Don guided interpretation of Jerry Butler’s all time great - you can fully understand it coming in second place.

TWO awesome sides in their most desirable form, and in the condition you British neurotics just love to hug.

New Horizon I Get That Feeling C/w Sherry (share With Me)

RARE 1978 New Jersey funk infused soulful dance backed with sublime sweet soul.

Top side immediately catches your ear with it’s in-your-face horns prompting a gnarling vocal backed by a chanting group chorus. This is strong street-level dance that has managed to stay off the Rare-Soul radar since 1978. Ridiculously rare and sodden with Monster status potential in the right hands.

Flip it over and harmony vocal-group fans are in for a super-treat. As sweet as soul ever gets, as the icy falsetto take you on a journey deep into permafrost! Silky harmony slips, slides & glides around in the background then the falsetto hits wineglass shattering heights..

Best of it’s genre I’ve heard in an age..simply sumptuous soul..

But watch the topside go, if the likes of Soul Sam etc. secure it…

Charisma Band Ain't Nothing Like Your Love

Top drawer pre-disco 1975 vocal-group Northern Soul.

This sound underlines what it was possible to create before the tidal-wave of dance fashion called “disco” swamped the club scene of America.

With strong influences from “Main Ingredient” members and the prolific arranger Bert “Super Hits” DeCoteaux, this session thankfully ignores all the crass influences of “disco” to convey 70s soulful dance at it’s best!

Expressive sister lead vocal cradled by a fusion of lush strings and sophisticated horns and inspirational guttural male vocals purring away in the background..

No other word describes this recording better than AWESOME!

Luther Simmons, Cuba Gooding & Bert DeCoteaux must take huge credit for that, crafting pure-soul on the very cusp of a Soulless dance revolution!

Degree Of Freedom Please Tell Me Why C/w Vegetable Soup

Fine, fine sweet soul from Richmond, Virginia back with a Hunk-Of-Funk.

1976 delight with a rap intro - soft gentle horns, occasional brush of the cymbal then a chilly falsetto steps up and signals sweet-soul perfection is about to take place.

Delicate, precise horns make sure they only enhance and not upstage a tapestry of highly-honed harmony. Interchanging leads all offer seamless purity with the brass arrangement adding structure, to what is one of the hardest to find sweet soul records on Planet Earth.

Flip it over Mario Smith flexes his versatility with a FUNK trip of considerable pace and power!

Two great sides one VERY ELUSIVE disc, a few light surface marks but as you can hear it plays clear, loud & true.

Ann Sexton & The Masters Of Soul You've Been Gone Too Long C/w You're Letting Me Down

First label for this revered Northern Soul Classic!

Back in the day when the Blackpool Mecca led the way with what was hip and what wasn’t; this style of sound was perfect for Ian Levine & Colin Curtis to illuminate their flawless forward-thinking. Along with James Fountain this southern style production was just perfect for the changing dance styles and mood of Northern Soul, which near 40 years on are still considered NS anthems.

Here is another timeless testament to those two DJ’s who quite frankly were the trailblazers of the 70s. Listen and drool..as Ann seduces you with that sultry vocal.

Curtis Liggins Indications What It Is C/w Funky Monkey Right On

Elusive Kansas City vocal-group harmony Northern Soul backed with a crazed hunk-of-FUNK!

Yes this rarities delivers the goods two times over, underlining the talent of Curtis Liggins as he writes and produces both!

Topside is a silky smooth n’soulful “Esquires” style, perhaps Chicago inspired gathering of vocals driven by an urgent guitar rhythm. The vocal harmony is so very strong you forget there are no horns in the production, as it races along never needing any extra accoutrements…those vocals really are that good!

My kinda Northern Soul - that’s “What It Is”

Flip it over and we’re off down that Funky road again - with a wild, outrageous romp into 60s Kansas Soul that this time, has a sound all of it’s own. A sound to unleash on a full dancefloor, at full volume.. and witness the possibility of minor mayhem..

Two great sides and a record that has again disappeared into the exile of great collections and DJ boxes.

Charisma band was a good buy for someone

And what I've always thought strange about this release is that Charisma Road is the "A-side" on BDA 483 where you'll generally see it as single sided demos with ANLYL only on the issue.  Then you have ANLYL as a single sided demo BDA-483-N, which shows in the Ref number (BDAS-483-B) it as a "B" side.

Does that make the ones with a "N" suffix reissues? :g:  :shhh:
