Just been listening to 'Isn't She a Pretty Girl' the 'B' Side of Ronnie McNeir's 'Sitting in My Class' (Deto287) I'd forgotton how good it is. Strikes me that many 'B' sides are now being discovered. A collector's thread of great flip sides please?

Frankie Beverley ' Want To Feel I'm Wanted ', other side of ' Because of My Heart '

I guess the classic one is the b side to Bobby Sheens "Doctor Love" on Capitol.

"Sweet, sweet love" just a brilliant piece of mid tempo soul. Various progressive types have played it over the years but it still got alot of potential.

Another favourite is the flip to Lou Rowls "Love is a hurting thing" "Memory lane" a slow sort of finger snapper with a bluesy feel, but don't let put you off, makes a great last record. Got the lot including harmonicas!

i like the topic! also interesting the question what influenced label owners decision on what to pick as a - and b-side. so often the determinded b-side is the title that´s more interesting to soul folks today...

like for example

jimmy helms - my little devil

ruby johnson - weak spot, keep on keeping on, (think stax/volt pretty often picked a ballad for the a-side and put a nice upbeat-tune on the flip...?

gene latter - funny face girl

regarding good 2siders, i like

jean wells - "the best thing for you baby"/"try me and see"

lyn collins - "mama feelgood"/"fly me to the moon"

jackie wilson - this love is real/love uprising

etta james - tell mama/i´d rather go blind

and thousands more i guess...

Always preferred the flip side to the Case of Tyme's manic "Manifesto" !

'"SOME CALL IT LOVE"

Absolute cracking dancer !

Another current example would be 'Gotta Wipe Away The Teardrops' the flip of Ollie Jackson's 'The Day My Heart Stood Still.' Think I still prefer 'Heart' but it does beg the question what impact a played 'B' side influences price too. Steinways, Larry Atkins etc etc?

Just been playing a few "flipside gems" so this is right up my street :

Current favorite, has to be the flip to Billy Preston's Capitol recording - "The girl's got 'it'" flip it over and there's a great, moody midtempo number called "The night" - one of my fave tunes at the moment !:D

Few more starting with the more obvious ones :

Lorraine chandler - What can I do/ Tell me your mine - Giant

Tony Hestor - Watch yourself/Just cant leave you - Karate

Larry Atkins - Aint that love enough/Lighten up - Highland

4 Voices on Voice

Joe Matthews - Aint nothing you can do/(you better) check yourself - Kool Kat

4 Exceptions- You got the power/A sad goodbye - Parkway

High Keys - Living a lie/Lets take a chance - Verve

Steinways - My hearts not in it anymore/you've been leading me on - Oliver

Lillian Dupree - Hide & Seek/Shield around my heart - DTown

John Bowie - 'miss a good thing/At the end of the day - Merben

Connie Questel - Give up girl/World of trouble - Decca

Liberty Belles - Shingaling time/Just Try me - Shout

Irma & Fascinators - Lost Love/Just a feeling - Scepter

Jimmy/Vela Cameron -Loving U is such a groove/ I found a place - Reprise

Marke Jackson - I'll never forget you/Since you've been my girl - Jamie (2 sides of Van Mccoy magic !)

Kenny Carlton - Lost & Found/Wait till I get U in my arms - Blue Rock (another 2 from Mr Mccoy !)

Take care

John

Hate the 'A' side of the Dream Team (I'm Not Satisfied) but the flip 'There He Is' is a real delight:
