Tel: 01942 828128 Email: heritage@wlct.org Opening Hours Monday 10.00am - 7.00pm Tuesday - Friday 10.00am - 5.00pm Saturday 10.00am - 1.00pm Admission Free Wigan Casino: The Heart of Soul 11 October 2004 - 26 February 2005 Don't miss this one! We tell the story of the impressive Empress Ballroom, which once stood on Station Road, from its opening in 1915 to its closure in 1981 and its subsequent destruction by fire. The music and dancing changed through the years, but the 'Emp' (as it was known) will always be remembered for its last reincarnation as the Casino Club, and its role in creating the Northern Soul phenomenon of the 70's and 80's. The exhibition features paintings by local artist David Barrow, memorabilia, memories and music from the Casino's famous all night dance and music sessions. The unique brand of soul music and innovative dance routines attracted people from all over the country. The Casino, and everything it stood for, is still remembered with affection. Link to comment
