Live Recordings @ Nighters

Lots of times (these days) the performance of live singers can easily be recorded straight off the 'sound desk'.

That is done lots of times & I have quite a few such recordings that date back over the last 30 years.

No one actually sets up a real mobile recording studio to capture a live show as the likes of the Stones (& other rock artists) used to do in the 70's / 80's (way too expensive).

Thanks for the reply Roburt, but I was thinking more along the lines of the guys with cassette players on the stage at Nighters recording 'live'...

Why would you need to make a p*ss-poor quality recording yourself when just about every track you hear at a nighter is available on youtube in decent quality. Just write down the artist / title (providing it ain't a stupid cover-up) & check the web when you get home.

Its actually not just about the tracks, its about capturing the atmosphere aswell, yes I appreciate the quality is not great Roburt, but its about having a memory of the Night in question.

I love cr*p recordings of Nighters

Len

I do Len, theyre brilliant, its also an historical record, as we've all heard with the amount of live recordings available on the net, & the reseach that can be done from them.  One of the reasons I asked the question is that we still need these records to look back on more than ever & I dont seem to see many people doin em these days, maybe thats because the technology is quite small & not as obvious or maybe its not seen as being the cool thing to do these days ?.

You're probably right there mate. Every time I was D.Jing through the 90'd I noticed there was always this guy on the stage (wearing a head band) that had one of those huge tape recorders - He taped everywhere he went.

As I said, I love those 'ruff 'n' ready' recordings, they even taped people's conversations in the back ground - Great stuff.

Its like a hand held recorder you just use a memory stick that can last hours and plug it into a pc that's how you can put it onto a cd or in to i tunes for an i pod. No messing around with tapes.

I love tapes! The only reason we bought our last car, was because it had a tape player :D

Youtube hasn't got everything plenty of casino tunes are not there

I would also add Roburt that most of the nights I attend you'd be hard pushed to find the majority of stuff on the net anyway....thats the point to those of us that still go out to nights to be enthused by relatively obscure soul 45's...

Russ

its a digital recorder Russ, you can plug them into a mixer, and it records the whole night, you plug the device into your pc and you have a massive wav of the night. if you wanted the background noise they do one for recording pub gigs and rough demo's for musicians
