Bradford Queens Hall Footage - Help Wanted

Recommended Posts

I used to have a great video of old TV clips (Wigan, Blackburn, Stafford, etc) with some home video footage on the end of Bradford Queens Hall, Ady's Yarmouth Weekender, Allanton, etc, from late 80's / early 90's.

Bit of a long shot this, but the Bradford footage had a fantastic female beat ballad that I never knew the name of. Anyone still got the video and can tell me what it is? Somewhere in between George Pepp and Frank Beverly 'Because of my heart' from what I remember, though a few years since I have seen it.

The other clips were great too - Ted Taylor 'somebody's always trying' at a kicking Allanton, Hoagy Lands 'next in line' at Yarmouth, etc - surprised no-one has stuck them on Youtube already.

Cheers, Chris.

From what I can remember, all the tv clips were on two discs, they included every documentary or feature up until 2002 plus that BBC play Our On The Floor, the first dvd is 3 hours and the second dvd maybe one and a half hours which I made up to 3 by putting something else on the end, might have been Ray Pollard at Yarmouth or something like that, then there was a 3rd dvd which had nothing but footage of dancers at 100 club, Leicester and so on.  I used to sell them as a package 3 for £20.  Nowadays I'd do them 3 for £10.

I found them thanks Jason. I only looked out the NS comps, Coast To Coast, I saw the Atlantic, Curtis and Soul A GoGo ones, I don't even remember the Syl Johnson one but the fact I've still got 5 of them means I will also have the rest, somewhere, but thanks for the offer

I still have that video tape too, I have a (pretty lo-fi) recording of Chuck Jackson and others live at a weekender in 1991, if I remember correctly. I also have some rare footage from the Old Vic in Wolverhampton, that has a good few minutes at the end with the lights on that shows a lot of faces quite clearly - I fully intended to upload it to YouTube, along with some other stuff I have uploaded in the past, but I am concerned that it may upset or cause offence because I am fully aware that certain people featured in it have since passed on.

Following on from the threads about film footage, anyone know where the footage of dancers on this clip comes from, and is there any more of it?

Maybe on Pete S's DVD's somewhere

Also while I'm asking, wasn't there some BBC footage of Wigan c. 1978? Have definitely seen it at some point, quite dark colour film of dancers on the floor at Wigan, though nothing like as busy as on the Granada clips.

There is a topic about this, basically from when the video was first posted.  I think it is an omnibus special or some report type program from back then.  Sure there is som e more info in the comments on the youtube video.

Interesting Pete - to me the haircuts, etc, look bona fide 1970's

Yes I guess so - but the actual program it was used in was more recent - I've never seen it in it's original context, if it had one. It wasn't in that documentary on the Function At The Junction was it - anyone?

When you mention the "Function At The Junction" documentary Pete, what does that mean? I'm curious- its not Clarky's old do in Clapham is it ?

No, there was a short film called Function At The Junction and when it came out on DVD, it came with a Northern Soul documentary as well

It also says the track they were dancing to was Interplay borrowed from RS. Manchester Poly the venue.

That fits...

Those round neck gym top thingies all the girlies are wearing were what the fashion conscience girl about Station Rd was attired in circa 77.

This clip is from an Omnibus shown in 1979 (or 78 without checking). The name of this short film was: "Disco Delights, Or What A Way To End It All" by David Richardson. The main film shown was "The People's Park" a documentary about Central Park, New York and this short was tacked on the end.

it was fairly short and focused on "northern discos" and featured heavy rock, "Roxy" and Northern Soul, I watched it at the time and the music that was playing while the clip was on was definitely Afternoon Of The Rhino. Whether this was what they were dancing to in reality  I can't say. I think Interplay was the intro music to the whole short film

Edit - it was 1978

Did you do the DVDs "Legends of Rare Soul" vols 1 & 2 too?

What happened with those was that I put together quite a collection of rare clips, this was before youtube, I did a compilation for a few people and then next thing, they turned up on this compilation Legends Of Rare Soul and I was told not to put them out any more because someone had the copyright, except they were using the clips I'd sourced, with the same gliches, drop out on the tape etc.  It's a bit vague now as it was 11 years ago.  There was a volume 3 as well.

Great info, thanks - is that where the BBC Wigan footage comes from too?

NB. can't understand why you never hear about the other Wigan footage - anyone know anything about it / have access to it?

Can't even think where I have seen it but definitely have - darker, shot from the floor, less busy

Maybe was just a short clip on something, but wonder if there were outtakes like with the Granada film

I was convinced it was Wigan, but apparently it isn't, it really does look like it though.  Love the line dancing in that play by the way.

Do you have the 'masters' / copies of the 3 DVDs? If not, the track listings?

Was there anything that you can't now get of youtube etc?
