As I had so many people ask for these due to the Bradford Queens Hall and Lenny Henry Film topics, I've dug them out again, because of my cock up they are 5 discs for £10 + £1 post if anyone's interested.  It's 3 northern soul tv clips / documentarys discs, one of just dance footage and the film. The original offer was for the 3 discs plus a free copy of the film.

 

 

 

I've made a cock up with these, I thought there were only 2 x tv clips / documentaries dvd's and that the third one was the dance footage from various nighters, but in fact there were 3 dvd's of documentaries and one disc of dancers, so along with the Coast To Coast film this means there will be 5 discs for £10 not the 3 plus one free as I stated before.  I found an old listing of the content.  Bear in mind I did these years and years ago   If you don't actually want the bonus Coast To Coast disc, please do let me know as it'll save me doing them for no reason and cut the postage down.

 

1) Northern Soul On Dvd!
Volume One 3 Hours


Chasing rainbows nice footage from stafford at it's peak including a
great clip of eddie holman doing "she's wanted in 3 states"
Midlands motown only shown in the local bbc area, this is a look at
the resurgence of northern and modern soul in the east midlands. 
Includes footage from various local clubs plus an on set report from
the upcoming movie "function at the junction"
Liquid news bbc choice gets in on the act with this 5 minute news
report on the first allnighter at the rocket in london
Johnny vaughan show the "hilarious" northern soul patrol arrive at a
chinese supermarket, roll out their carpet and dance to northern in
front of bemused customers
Old grey whistle test a visit to the blackburn allnighter in 1988
Clocking off middle aged couple pay a visit to the ritz and dance
to "the champion" with real soulies in this bbc drama
So it goes good report on the morecombe allnighters circa 1984 from
gary crowley. Features richard searling with hair. This is a new
copy and is ten times better than the one currently in circulation
Soul survivors a good 30 minute documentary from 2000 which was only
shown in the bbc yorkshire area. Features footage from brighouse,
cleethorpes plus lots of old clips
Pioneers a late night channel 4 item from 2002 attempting to explain
the wigan casino legend. Lots of good footage and interesting interviews.
The word tongue in cheek report on northern soul from 1993
Arts file early 90's overview from the bbc, actually a fairly
intelligent look at the scene 
Jameson's people 15 minute look at a couple's life on the scene, in
this case well known dj and collector phil dick. Some terrific
dancing footage in this clip.
25 years of wigan casino a 30 minute granada tv documentary from
september 1998, excellent stuff with edwin starr doing a superb
acapella version of "i have faith in you"


2) Northern Soul On Dvd Volume 2
This compilation rounds up the remaining tv clips that were not on the
first volume. With this and volume 1, you literally have everything
concerning northern soul that's been broadcast on tv.

Short stories starring in cleethorpes
Channel 4 1996. Features the cleethorpes weekender and doris troy's
appearance there

The beat of the night
Itv night network circa 1989. 5 minute fashion feature featuring
dancing to sweet darlin.
Granada reports soul survivor
Granada 1998. A lookback at wigan casino, interview with russ, tim
brown in the studio
Blue juice
Movie 1994. The northern clips from the film.
Paul ross show
Tvs 1997. Similar to the above but no tim brown J
Video diary
Tvs 1998. Following a young man on his northern soul evening out
Nwa
Granada 1996. Excellent report by mark radcliffe on the northern
scene..lots of good footage and interviews
Classic café
Bbc 2001. This is a feature about nogsy, juxtaposing his job with his
devotion to ns. I think. Very interesting 10 minutes with some footage
from (i think) bedford soul night and an excellent dancing lesson 
Channel 4 1995. Basically a documentary about scooter runs but
features a 100% northern soundtrack. Interesting.
Total running time is 3 hours. 


3) Northern Soul On DVD Volume 3

2003's northern soul clips are all here: the trevor nelson soul
nation report on northern, a superb show from granada called in the
club which has a brilliant look back at wigan casino, and mark
lamarr's soul underground with a general overview of the scene from a
southern point of view. The actual dvd is 3 hours long so look out
for some surprises including the extremely rare bbc tv play "out on
the floor" from 1982 impossible to find in this quality and never
repeated on tv!
It looks as if it was filmed at wigan casino people say it wasn't,
but if not they've built an exact replica and features a great
soundtrack culled from grapevine 45's. There's other extra clips on
the dvd to make the running time 3 hours including the dance
competition from wigan 25th anniversary at stoke

18) THE ORIGINAL NORTHERN SOUL DANCERS DVD
Basically this is 2+ hours of footage of dancers recorded at Bradford,
Leicester, 100 Club and various other venues, circa late 80's/early
90's, brilliant dancing including dance competitions etc. Relive your
youth!

I don't know why this happens.  About 80% of dvd's from 10 years or so ago won't play anymore.  Even if they aren't scratched or damaged.  My originals of the Northern Soul dvd's wouldn't play, I had to extract all the VOB files or whatever they are called and make an iso of each one to burn.

I think I know where these are.

I think it's a hardware problem more than anything Pete.  DVD Players have moved on in the last ten years, and some of the older burners aren't compatible.

Yeah I guessed as much.  It's not just these though: a lot of multi-layer PS3 games won't actually play on the PS3, only on the most recent version.  Utter rip off.

Sony should have done something about the PS3 problem, what happens is when you insert a particular game, it sounds like it's going to load but then you hear it try to eject the game, and it doesn't load.  At first I thought this was just our PS3 but after ding a search, there were thousands of people with the same problem - but Sony deny it and always say it's a laser problem.  I actually took mine apart to clean it, didn't make any difference, we ended up having to get the newer version.  We use the older one in the front room as a dvd player, games machine and also you can use it as a server for streaming films etc of the computer, so it wasn't a waste of money buying the second one but if that boy thinks he's getting a PS4, he can dream on!

We've got an original PS3 on which I upgraded the hard drive from 60GB to 500GB, and a slim one.  Haven't tried any new games on the older model but I'll give it a go and see what happens.

It's games like Uncharted 3.  I'm on about the second generation PS3, the slimline one, which has now been replaced by a remodelled slimline one!
