You disco bunnies missed a good un,think you lot would have all been drooling at tunes played (Mel Williams-Girl Of Mine worth the entrance fee alone).A full night of it is a bit to much for me,not enough tempo changes & all sounds a bit "Nice" & I don't want nice all night.

Debbie Taylor was awesome, god she could belt a tune out, backing band was worth hearing on there own.Didn't see all of her as I got bored & went for a bit of a mooch & a natter.

Highlight of the night for me was seeing The Wilton rammed & meeting with a load of my old mates, plenty of banter flying about.Didn't stop laughing from walking in the pub to leaving the venue at 3.15,brilliant.

Just bought this today, think I'd have been lynched if I'd have played this last night

Tabby Thomas - Popeye Train Excello

Pleased you had a good night Martyn. Yep, Mel Williams is a stunner.

Not sure if Tabby's Train is my cup of tea - but I've given it a Sunday spin anyway. Nice sax break mid way through.

I know Tabby isn't everyone's cuppa even a lot of the 60t's boys aren't keen,I just think it's a cracking dancer & sounds brilliant out played loud

Could you imagine a one room venue that played both Mel Williams & Tabby Thomas in the same night.........that'd be my perfect night :g:

Cheers

Two top tunes from the Lovelites there, didn't realise until now that both tracks came back to back on a 20th Century 45,until now.

What a great soul double sider that is mate!

Just been masking up a room for decoration whilst listening to Bobby Wommack's "Lookin for a Love" UA LP from 1974.

I'd forgotten what a teriffic LP this was, the stand out number on Side 1 being that below (track2).

Bobby Wommack: I don't want to be hurt by ya love again:

Wether this came out on a 45 I wouldn't know

My double sider is on Love Lite Records out of Chicago Mick - two class sides as you say.

You can't beat a bit of Bobby can you - excellent. I have that album somewhere.

Have a good day mate.

Been through a small very dusty 200 box, was full of 'disco' .. so to keep Mr Bird on his toes I'm gonna post a lot of it over the next couple of weeks!

1st off, something on british Decca, reminiscent in a way of Lou Rawls, and with a spoken sort of Dead end Street intro, a bloody awful title, but a surprisingly decent tune despite that!

Kenny Williams - (You're) Fabulous Babe - Decca UK

Well documented that this was recorded as the backing track to a 1970's TV promotion for Faberge's "Babe" perfum.

In case of interest there's more detail here.

Unfortunately I'm ewd enough to remember it.

Little D & The Harlems-Who's Going To Pick Up The Pieces Josie

Funnily enough I was listening to this last night having seen a copy on Discogs.

It was the name that attracted me to searching it out on You-tube.

OK a bit doo-wappy, but the Soul still there, I thought it was a nice piece.

A request on the wants page for Donald lee Richardson "You got me" let me to find

that its also collectable for the B/W, a fact I didn't know except for searching it out

on Popsike.

The Len Jewell thread on this Forum, also led me to the record boxes.

So having had the instrumental to "What Kind of Lady" for over 40 years, I decided to give

both sides a play. The "lady" side still sounds a bit like Liberace on speed to me,  though I've never heard

it played out since the Torch in 72 , I seem to remember it was popular at the Cats?

The Huff Puff lable, was of course part of the Gamble/Huff Philly set up, though I'm not sure

whether there were any other releases on the lable, it certainly was an attractive design.

Anyway the flip is a sweet philly/crossover tune typical of their productions at the time.

Don't know exactly who the vocalists are on this number but you would think that Gamble/Huff/Bell might be involved.

If it's been featured here before,I appologise:

The Producers "Love is amazing" Huff Puff:
