The Motown 7S Box Set: Rare And Unused

Might be there's no way to tell, especially if they were packed at a different stage to being numbered. I suspect for every pack with 2 x Barbara McNair, there is a pack with 2 x Originals/Marvin in it - might have to organise a swap centre when the dust settles. Just tried to get a replacement and it's not available anymore, only a refund - Dilema.

The box number I had problems with was 61 so it must be a random thing or it seems they pressed too many Barbara McNair's :0) as that seems to be the main double.

Actually, Richard has the expertise to do a release like this properly and if 2,200 have been manufactured then I'd say that's a great result for all concerned. As powerful as Universal are, they're not as concerned about limited appeal deep catalogue releases because it's not really worth their while, so it really makes more business sense to farm out the specialist releases to the right parties and in this case they got it 100% correct. I'd rather Richard was doing this stuff than anyone else. Makes all the sense in the world in my view.

Ian D  :D

couldn't agree more ian, if you had to put a project in anyone's hands, it would be richard....everything he has been involved in over the decades has been of value, be it vinyl, live acts or cd...nice to go "back to black" though isn't it?...s.o.s. band at the hilton??.....say no  more!!

OK keep the thread going lads, mine hasn't arrived yet, but if it has two Originals in it I'll gladly swap one for a B McNeir….etc…that way no losers.

The missing record is actually Marvin Gaye / Spinners (my mistake in saying Originals the earlier post) Seems it's the same packing error that keeps occuring. I'm sure to offset this, there will be an equal amount of packs with 2 x Marvin and no B. Mcnair surfacing soon. If that has already happened to anyone yet, let us know.

Cheers

Mick

A tiny little part of my brain is starting to become obsessed with questions, statistics, facts and figures that could be derived from this set of records...

A limited edition of 2000 numbered boxes have been produced. I'm sure I've read a quote by Richard Searling, saying that there will 2200 made - Does this mean that there are 200 promo boxes out there and will the records have white labels with big red A's on both sides?

How many Soul Source members have bought it?

Will they play them?

Will they download the mp3 copies?

Where did they buy the set from?

What number set do they have?

Where in the world have they gone?

Will the monetary value of the set increase?

Is a low number more desirable?

Will the sets with missing/duplicate records reveal a pattern?

A numbering system is a great marketing tool, it also demonstrates a truly limited run.

To be honest, I'm surprised that there are still any left for sale at all, given what is up for grabs. It will be interesting to see what happens when they start appearing for re-sale on Ebay.

I'm keeping mine though, that is without question.

It appears the high numbers (1800 +) are the "defective" packs, whereas the low numbers (100+) are all OK. Unfortunately that leaves a whole bunch that are either good or bad

My copy number 1885 everything ok  another 3 ordered will have to check them when they come

Why on earth would anyone want to order more than 1 set?

Just greedy & depriving someone else of a set IMO.

suppose its because they are collectors /dealers who want to make a few bob ,

it goes on , on here all the time Cunnie

or are you just being sarcastic :hatsoff2:

Just received 2 sets today - one set is all correct with the seven different records, but the other set has Marvin Gaye missing and 2 x B McNair.

Is it possible to send just the one pack back to Amazon, or do I have to send both packs back and hope the replacements are both correct.?

Cheers

Mick

they got none left Mick, my box same spoke today and seem unclear what they are going to do about it

Wasn't planning on opening mine until Christmas morning, but with a few people stating they had missing and duplicate records, thought I'd take a peek. Anyway they're all present and correct. Box 01726 direct from Universal. I also had (have) a self imposed buying ban at the moment, but knew if this wasn't purchased almost immediately, then I'd be left with two choices. Either never getting one or pay a small fortune at a later date when supply couldn't meet demand.

What with records skipping, duplicate copies and missing discs Universal obviously have pretty poor Quality Control considering only 2000/2200 units were manufactured!

I doubt EMI would have made errors like this - still I guess we are fortunate they have even considered pressing them on Vinyl in 2013,

Yes it seems to be a cock up , hopefully that will resolve it self for all concerned . As being fortunate to get a vinyl release in 2013 maybe but its no excuse for missing records in boxes and skipping records .

MINE ARRIVED THIS MORNING SUNDAY ROYAL MAIL

NUMBERED 908  930  1796  FROM AMAZON ALL OK

LIKE HOW THEY HAVE LEFT A GAP IN THE NUMBERING  OF THE 45'S

534 543-0 THEN 1 & 2   NO 3 4 OR 5  THEN 6 7 8 & 9

DOES THIS MEAN THAT PROBABLY THE SECOND SET IS ALREADY PRESSED AND READY TO GO

AND IF SO WILL SOME SNEAK OUT THE BACK DOOR BEFOREHAND

JUST A THOUGHT

Is it me or has the frank Wilson been remastered or a heavy bass line added. Well worth every penny and comes with a cd download voucher

It's not you, on my system, the bass line sounds tighter and more defined in the mix. You can hear individual bass notes being played. It hasn't robbed the recording of it's original feel though.

No you are not unlucky just checked mine arrived Friday and both The Temptations and The Spinners skip, this is a disgrace from such a big company, the masters must have got an impurity on them during production, I can see some of us being disappointed as if this is now sold out how are we going to get replacements? what started off as all of us being very excited about this is slowly turning sour and I feel it's a quality control issue.

Just sent an email to Universal regarding this, see what they suggest, I can't see it only being two instances of bad copies pretty sure more will surface as people check their sets, such a shame like I say, I've lost confidence in the package already and to cap it all you have to wait 30 days for a refund from Universal, maybe I should ask Phil Dick to check one of his spare sets for decent copies lol

It certainly is starting to turn sour, anybody that has bought multiple sets to keep unopened, mint and unplayed may now have a double dilemma on their hands.

If they have been bought with a view to being sold on in the future, they may prove easier to sell having been confirmed as a full and playable set.

I notice that a reviewer on Amazon has passed comment on the missing record issue too.

The Marvin Gaye 45s must be out there somewhere...

I know you'll say I shouldn't be naive, and actually I'm not, but WTF is all this buying multiple copies? It was great to read that Mark Bicknell resisted buying multiple copies.....restored my faith........and then I scrolled down ro read of people wirh 6 copies!!

Not such a soul family after all eh? Let your fecking mates on here buy and enjoy it for Christs sake.

Same happens on record store day.......multiple copies of the Gregory Porter etc and then e

they might be going to sell um cheaper you never know :wicked:
