Chris said messy record?, sounds good and clean from the sound file. :P

I always thought it was a song about A Job Opening for an experienced bar tender :shhh: ......until I seen a copy  .

:g: and the Mel B isn't even a rare  demo.

Would never be able to buy them back now, but at least I can honestly say I had them in the 70s, and my Mel Britt was a demo.

John Manship had a black DJ copy for sale at Cleethorpes over 10 years ago, presumably the one featured in the Million Dollars of Rare Soul book. It was the most coveted record for sale that weekend priced at 3K or thereabouts - remember Greg Tormo drooling over it. In those days, the rarest records were hung on the wall in transparent wallets but they kept falling down.

i remember he also had two within a few months of each other on auction a few years ago not the best copy's in the world went for 3200 and 3600 i think or around that figure  , i knew the bloke who owned one of them  anyways i have been after it myself since then and  have asked just about most folks i know who might have one and asked on here twice but to no avail

Most big collectors have Mel Britt,    Not so many have del larks...

No copies of the Del Larks sold recently on Popsike. Almost two dozen Mel Britts on Popsike though. Evidently, the Del Larks is much, much rarer than perceived. Never seen a copy of the Del Larks for sale apart from the Manship DJ offering at Cleethorpes. Fortunately, a nice copy of Mel Britt is shelved somewhere in Crocker Towers, courtesy of Gerry Dietz at the Austin Record Show.  The Del Larks may therefore be so rare, a copy may not appear on the open market for some time, and if and when it does, expect it to fetch a princely sum...

I was asking about the Del larks, I know that Mel Britt isn't a rare record it's just a case of supply and demand that makes it fetch big money.

I have never had, or seen a Del larks. Didn't Sammy come over to the Uk a few years ago and bring 3? Demos with him to sell? I'm sure there was a big yahoo about it, everyone thought they were re presses and that the world was coming to an end.  :D

had chance of a black silver demo for a £1000 in the mid 90`s..i`d never seen one before up to that point...looked the same as the issue vinyl wise but label is black where issue is blue.....i should have been braver and gone for it..now that is rarer.....a few of the big boys have the issue....seen that for sale a handful of times over the last 25 years

Del-Larks.......in that condition it will top 5 grand easy. Mel Britt is about right for the condition but you never know these days, there are some dafties about as we`ve seen with Buddy Ace, Constellations etc.

Good call Steve, very close to £5k now with 7 hours left.

There is/was a demo in Mansfield

There's probably more than people realise but it is a keeper, still stupidly rare.

I wouldn't be suprised if its still in the collection Chalky.Held it in my hands in the early 90's when he bought his "big" box round to my previous house, and i moved in '93.

I had a long chat with Sammy on the first night he came over, not at any point did he mention he had copies for sale.

Interestingly he did go into great length telling me about how he written, funded, owned, sang, made, sorted studio time,

owned the label etc, etc, etc.

I asked if it cost you everything you had at the time why didn't you save money and only put out a demo or a issue instead of both

He replied  That demo man I'm not going up that street

Then quickly went on to his employment under George Blackwell

Just posted a reply, that disappeared, and the page jumped out -unlogging the login,so if that first one appears...that's the reason for 2 posts....

Clive Jones had both issue and demo of the Del-Larks,I held one in each hand and was stunned. He also had many, many, top rare NS classics, like The Salvadors,Robby Lawson,Eddie Parker on Awake,Ray Agee,Gwen Owens issue, etc etc etc.The word "stupifying" sums up what he had in the late 1980's.Often wonder whatever became of him and his fabulous collection -like many,he seemed to disappear off the face of the earth....

in the late 70's..i think Skegness collector Shaun hogan (mogul) bought a demo from kev Roberts who had recently unearthed a copy in the US..£30..he later sold it for about the same price. i spoke to shaun about it when it was valued at £1000..and now..it would be like losing a winning lottery ticket!!!!

Don't know yet, I hate auctions, but what set sale price would I put on it?  And then what if three people all ask for it and two end up hating me!

I think that's what would happen Pete. Give everyone a fair chance and auction it mate. Friend of mine is very interested. You will get the best price for the seller, and more for yourself.

The one Manship had at Cleethorpes all those years ago was for show only.  If it had been a set-sale, I would have bought it that day.  But John said it was going into his auction at a later date.  When it finally appeared in his auction several months later, I spoke with John and put in what I thought was a very competitive bid, but ultimately it sold to someone else.  I think John told me it was Keb Darge's copy, and I don't think it was a demo.

The copy I eventually secured a couple of years later (and still own) is a black and silver DJ copy.  I ended up getting it from a local New Jerey dealer and paid less than I bid on the copy Manship auctioned.
