His get up was admitedly outrageous. But for me, it had little to do with what he looked like and everything to do with what he sounded like.

Completely agree Soulgirl. It would look much better with some fat old British people dancing to black and white footage of the Major, rather than a young, funky and contemporary (at the time), black audience getting down live.

I have a couple of DVDs of soul train i bought in the US. They have come from japan. The quality is not 100% but good enough to view...the guy had the whole lot at $10 each...unfortunatly some of the clips where the dancers "do their funky stuff" to backing tapes have been edited out....but there is still planty of entertainment.....if anyone is desperate to see them get in touch and I`ll see what i can do for you.......

The fashions make it for me :( i was in my late teens in the 70`s & love looking at what was worn by me & many others, folks love to slag the fashoins off ( 70`s) but they were of there time & certainly not boring, i bet you any money you would have worn similar stuff if you had been around . Black fashion really influenced the world at that time, long leather coats, fedora hats etc etc & that whole blaxsplotation thaaaang baby. The whole point of a show like Soul train is you are watching a show MADE for the black community by the black community & it was fun .............. ground breaking prog.

No your right give me a rapper in a baseball cap anyday :thumbsup:

I went to the site & typed in Marvin gaye ....... you gotta see the "whats going on " footage live from 73, SPEECHLESS

Up to about a year back, BET (TV channel in the US) used to show 1 or 2 old episodes of the show each weekend (down in Florida it was on a Sunday morning) ... got to see many during our 45 day winter break there over the last 5/6 years. I believe the tapes of just about every show still exists ... BUT Don C makes a lot of money from licensing the shows for TV screening or licensing clips from the shows for inclusion in newer music documentary videos.

I'm sure, at some time, he'll license em for DVD release (if new DVD release's still exist in the future). He may also sell em to a NETFLIX or similar company.

If you go on Amazon, there's a 9 dvd set available. I've also seen every dvd sold separately if you don't want to buy the whole set.

I believe these DVD's are just various clips from different shows and not full episodes that people like myself are looking for.  I mean it's better than nothing I suppose.

Me I would love to own the first five seasons with all the episodes in their entirety.
