Darn it - I missed it, anyhow forget Northern Soul, that piece is now history -  what's on tonight's show?

Des

Probably another half hour or 60 minute advert for 2 or three things that the BBC doesnt allow ads for.

I am impressed......sorry for doubting your credentials, and a boy from Hull too.

Anyway I won't take up any more of your valuable time.

Ps: Are you as famous as John Prescott or The Housemartins?

Not famous at all. John Prescott isn't from Hull originally, but his political career is Hull based. Could be wrong. My grandfather was at one time it seems.....he played football for Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers and Hull City in the 1920's, hence that is why I am from there. Rumours have it he had a 'cap' for England, but was only a reserve and the Football Association says he never had one, yet the cigarette card I have of him says so. My dad sort of remembers something about it!

I must admit, I have chuckled at this thread at times. I guess it's exhausted a bit now. Anyway back to the song writing. I have a possible commission that has shocked me, so I best get cracking. Yesterdays postings cost me on that scenario. Also I will be here tonight, so if anybody is about come and educate me and I will treat you to a pint or sherry lol! (not a pint of sherry)

I nearly choked on my jam sandwich.

What would have been fab, if the guy with the red hat on who was dancing and jumping up and down behind the presenters and young Dave at the end, would have come into the frame smiling like mad and saying the drugs were frigging great.

I've just watched it and altough there is a little cheese on top I was expecting a P.O.G.'s alike avalanche of piss taking and a mind numbing baggies & circle skirt bonanza....but it wasn't. Ok there are bits & bobs which are a little naff but that's media for ya....''the presenter saying ...ya have got your costumes on...'' does show the ''funny'' side of the scene which is not really my cup of tea but hey.... Overall it was trying to give a little background information about Northern Soul and push the film which somehow has big distribution problems to get the frigging thing in the cinemas !! The last bit where a youngish crowd dressed rather mixed in casual, mod and some baggies... smiling, dancing to a track outside the top 500 and having a laugh, did present a rather toooo rosy picture of northern soul... if ya mix a few more old misable farts asking for the top 500, some pc only warriers, an armada of over over 50`s patched up in circle skirts & baggies and the odd chin stroker ya get the right picture. :shhh:

What would have been fab, if the guy with the red hat on who was dancing and jumping up and down behind the presenters and young Dave at the end, would have come into the frame smiling like mad and saying the drugs were frigging great... :D Imagine being an old school skinhead and having to endure some proper false media crab for over 40 years.... there is something to moan about if you are into it  This feature is by no means great but imho not as bad as I have envisaged it after reading some comments on here..... Anyway lets go back to a proper ovo debate :hatsoff2:

and the old 69 era do have a moan about the punky boneheads calling themselves skinhead's

Serious head on for a minute.(one and only time).

By no means knocking the upcoming film, but am i alone in wishing the content involved some angst.?

You know the stuff that makes us  what we are.The fallings out,the divorces, the illicit meetings at motorway services, brushes with the law, redundancies, births and deaths.A film with a bit of character depth to balance the music and lifestyle.Focus on the darker elements.

Shane Meadows,where are you.?

If we are speculating. If Elaine makes enough to think about bringing the storyline more up to date in a sequel. Then I'd be a very happy camper. I'm sure Elaine and Marco would be too.

why, does it not have such themes? What is the plot then?

it's not just a long superficial pop-video type thing is it? Like guy ritchie used to make - a fantasy world where DJs are good looking, and criminals dress well...

The plot i would imagine is about 70's Wigan.Nowt wrong with that.Put me right if it isn't.I was saying i'd like to see a film with real edge. One that makes me cry, laugh and sh*t myself.

Again not knocking EC's film.

So This is England is crap, thanks for clearing that up Trevski. .I'm talking about SM giving it a go that's all.Personally,if he gave it a go in the style of Dead mans shoes it might just work.

Do you think Oxfam will be full of clown suits in a couple of years? or will people in Africa be walking around looking like the Wombles!

That will depend if them Africans are wombling in the overground or underground scene out there  :cheese1:

Can someone put it on youtube so I can cringe in solidarity out here in Malta?

Go back to Post 312. There's a link there to You Tube. Not the whole programme just the "relevant" bits.

Cheers mate, not as bad as I expected. Mind you, I have very low expectations. Don't forget, this is the channel that gave Omid Djalili his own show.

The clowns and weirdo's always show up for a camera so that was always going to happen.

It's such a shame the Beeb doesn't have any journalists anymore :dash2:

I watched it and thought it was mildy amusing and typical of what the Beeb or any other channel would do to present the :scene: .

from various comments on this thread and others about peoples dress code , I would ask this question .

is there a promoter out there who would bar people from their venues if they turned up in bags , vests , or circle skirts ,

imagine the scene on the door .

soul dress code police with tape measures , measuring widths and lengths or maybe a template like they have for hand  luggage  if it doesn't go through you cant come in ,

.

well ?

The problem is all the extra people smuggled in hiding in baggies and circle skirts.

Thinking about it, the best portrayals of the scene have usually been local / regional productions (Pete Smith put together a DVD or 3 of them all a few years ago - some great features) rather than prime time BBC1 national ones at 7pm…..I also hid behind the sofa at "This England" when it was first broadcast (8.30 pm) and how it portrayed the scene…..some things never change I guess, although I don't need to hide behind sofas anymore!

Reading back on page 9 there seems to be some confusion between the Granada production "This England" which was braodcast in the late 70's and the more recent mini series drama entitled "This Is England"... just sayin'!

Soul night last night DRAX - World class

However :Following THE NONE SHOW - It appears that people are now walking round events with cameras

If you do see the "PHANTOM FLASHER at your next BIG NIGHT OUT ! - Tell em - STOP IT !

I was at the "Ballroom" over the border when the camera crew attempted to

capture the essence of Northern soul All went a bit "Youve been framed for me "  - FAIL !

If your in a room full of "Hats " Heels & Bags on the dance floor - Its either a nightmare,or you

misread the flyer !
