You're just upset because it never happens when you're on Kegsy ( who's name was chanted for an encore by the crowd at one venue I did, I believe you were there that night). I would have found it strange if Levine was DJing and people applauded his selections...did they boo and hiss when he played the Four Vandals? Pete's right about 1976, Casino era, impossible to pin down the night, DJ or record. Must have been something spontaneous. Did it start because the crowd applauded the end of a great set and then folk carried on clapping each record? As clapping on the beat had been around for years, it was only a small step to applauding a good record, and in the mid1970's, they just kept coming. Well a tape I recorded in October 1976 has no clapping at the end. One I did in January 77 does have clapping. I, of course, invented clapping after a record, it was after a play of Looking For You. I remember applauding, from about '76, probably the dance floor taking sides during the Oldies vs. Newies arguments at the time. I wasn't applauding the record itself, it was done more to show the DJ that we appreciated him taking a risk and to encourage him to carry on.
