.

I believe it is showing in Tewkesbury (Roses Theatre) 20th December. In fact it definitely is screening there, as I've just booked tickets!

It's on in Stroud at the Subscriptions rooms 15th November. After the showing there will be a soul night to take the atmosphere on until 2am... The Film comes to Gloucestershire at last !

Nice article in today's Observer, Sunday 12th October. The author appears to draw on Soul Source comments and last weekend's Telegraph article. Things seem to be snowballing as more screenings are being scheduled. May the multiplex cinemas go forth and multiply so that Elaine can recoup her investment...

Nice one - available on line as well !

A well crafted article by Paul but disagree with the fourth paragraph from the end. Wigan was a pro-dance music movement, not an anti-chart backlash. Top of The Pops was fluff, pretty much overlooked or just a laugh on a wet Thursday. The movement became a way of life for some but it was the quest for better and better rare dance sounds that motivated most who graced the floor.

A couple of observations on this article:

"If northern soul makes a comeback with this film it will probably be spectacular and brief."

"Many young people I’ve talked to describe their frustrations with the mainstream EDM scene in the same way we talked about the disco and nightclub circuits of the Seventies: stale, commercialised, samey and exploitative."     ……oh the irony

....... and another

"The dancefloor at Wigan. There was a clear zone where only the elite dancers could do their moves"

Can't say I ever noticed this either..... :g:

Anbother urban myth....it's true that some of the best dancers were near the front, but essentially you could go where you liked on the dancefloor as long as you could find a space.....

Sadly I'm missing it all, but had a conversation two weeks ago with a retired teacher from Burnley, in his late 70's and now living in Durham, who said that he'd be going to see the film as a lot of lads he was teaching were all popping pills and going to Wigan Casino in the mid 70's, and he'd like to know what all the fuss was about. When I told him there's still a Northern Soul scene he was amazed, and started asking me about amphetamines, I, because of the company I was in, denied any knowledge :shhh:

I'm surprised he was unaware that events are still taking place if he is still living in Burnley, as it has always been an area with plenty of soul venues and there are still numerous events in and around Burnley including one of the best Nighters in the Country (IMHO)

He's in Durham now, if you read the post.  I came up to Burnley with Kev Moore a couple of years ago, had a great night, and will return when in England if there's a suitable night

Got my tickets for the 9pm London showing and just heard Elaine on BBC radio this morning ...
Looking forward to seeing it so much and the family and i sat down to watch "Spike Island " the other night ... and told them if you think that was a great scene to be involved in , wait till you see " Northern Soul " .

My kids have grown up with Northern playing but only one really likes it.... 17yr old girl ... other two are into drum and bass and dub step ... which is cool ... i have a big collection of 12 2 of that stuff as well ..

Ordered my 7" Box Set from PlayDirect at £69 ... and they sent me the CD box set by mistake ... after an email convo they said keep it and the box set would be sent out soon ... It came in the post today ... RESULT !! two for one  ..better than Morrisons :)

Very big shout our to all that have worked so hard putting this whole thing together .. can't wait till Friday and the gig after at the 100 Club ... if any from the site are going be good to put faces to names , as i'm kind of new back into all of this ... but big Old Wigan boy from Liverpool now in London

Steve :) " Happy Days "

This is a myth .... " clear zone " my backside ... yes most of the good dancers went close to the stage ... and towards the middle but us Liverpool lads always went up in Mr M's anyway .. as we loved the stompers and classics more ...

Left hand of the stage was always our shout after ... and Beachcomer was always a great warm up ... oh the days ..

Swimming after at the baths ... and then train back on a comedown :)) ahhhh the joys of Britsh Rail on a Sunday ..

Thats just far too harsh.

Lisa Stanfield has been a great supporter of Elaine all the way through, mentioning the film at all interviews about her LP, unconnected interviews on chat  shows, as did Ricky Tomlinson, and turning up to a whole load of social events that pretty sure she had other things she could be at. All above and beyond what most film people seem to do for Cameo roles. And both have been massively complimentary about the film, and arguably they might know just a little more about good films than you or I.

Do you not think having people like Lisa Stanfield sitting beside Elaine on a couch will open much deserved doors for publicity. And before you give me some pish about the integrity of publicity go and read the hassle Elaine has had on getting this distributed, and how much work they have had to do to get it to this position. Single handedly in some cases.

So if Lisa says something that impacts one or two hard core followers, not sure thats such a big problem. If you need to get your views on that sort of stuff from BBC and other mainstream channels, not sure its just Lisa that has got it wrong.

More moaning by stealth. Something our scene is fantastic at. Thankfully its unlikely to impact on the numbers. Just another ego filled rant to me at a fairly obvious target as Lisa is to some soul fans.

I have no doubt that Lisa Stansfield has promoted this film at every opportunity and I also know how much effort and personal cost has been put into this film by Elaine but to get on national TV at such prime time and be unable to take the opportunity to promote the film properly to the general public, the vast majority of who'm don't know what Northern Soul is was tragic. It needed Elaine to tell the story not to be interupted by LS.

I have nothing negative to say about the film, I have tickets booked to see the film at the Wellingborough Castle, the story very much mirrors my life for the most part.

We clearly have never met, in 45 years of being a part of this fabulous scene and all its various factions, Iv never been accused of having any sort of ego.

I made an observation about something I witnessed which was about a subject that has dominated my entire adult life, I think I had the right to say it as I saw it, you may feel it was harsh and perhaps my wording could have been better, but a huge opportunity has been lost.

Kudos to all on here who have set up a screening at your local cinema. If you're also on Facebook, why not share your event info on the official Northern Soul the film's page & it will be added to the big list here: https://bit.ly/NorthernSoulCinemas

Also, if your local Soul Club has a Facebook group, bung it in there too & make an Event for it & invite your friends

Reading Showcase on Saturday night booked for me and the missus. Her wedding anniversary treat although she doesn't see it that way. The offer of a day shopping in London won her round.

Never thought I would say this but I'm really looking forward to it as much as a good all-nighter.

imagine that there will be other soulies there so I think the atmosphere will be tops.

Being in the south and needing to live up to the stereotypes, I'm not sure what to wear, are clogs de rigeur?

I made an observation about something I witnessed which was about a subject that has dominated my entire adult life, I think I had the right to say it as I saw it, you may feel it was harsh and perhaps my wording could have been better, but a huge opportunity has been lost.

So based on that logic you know Lisa Stanfield very well to make such a viscous attack on her ego?

As for opportunity lost, its been flying around every social media it could do since a number of things this morning, so again it doesn't seem to have impacted it, I have updates from a number of mediums at 20 times the recent rate, and even Mikes mums dancing in her slippers round the valleys to it, thinking ah thats what my nice boy Michael did when on leave (don't let her see the whole thing Mike, you may get about 20 years of grounding backdated). How much wider do you think it would have got if it had not been for Lisa's savage ego?

So yes you are entitled to your opinion, just like i am entitled to challenge it with mines. You were incredibly harsh, and from my experience incredibly wrong about Lisa Stansfield being some sort of ego maniac. So I stand by my opinion, like a lot of people I am fed up of some the statements where people seem to be more interested in making it about them,  and interestingly following it with their length of service. Although I will congratulate you on having being doing all-nighters for 45 years, way more than me. Credit where credits due, it just doesn't give you special rights over views on a film, sadly.

And we have met, and spoken at least 3 or 4 times with a Wilton via  Andy Dyson, and via Gavin Page who one suggested me for your room at Essence to you. I do have to reintroduce myself each time, so maybe my fragile ego, which I am well aware I have, is a bit battered and bruised, and made me harsher than I should have been.  Maybe not.

Caught Elaine & Lisa on Breakfast yesterday and was impressed with Elaine and her portrayal of the scene and it seems. and I hope, it all pans out for her, takes guts to put yourself and your assets on the line :sweatingbullets: and I was even more impressed that she persevered for 10 years to make this film, Lisa came across as a bit slack mouthed and slow though and looked daft in that hat but she can't be that daft she's a million £ or so in front of me in the bank  , just watched the vid on here, where did they get all them youngster from? I know there's a few on the scene but not a couple of thousand, or was there some strategically placed old wrinklies like myself to pad it out? :g: Inspired using Kings Hall, Stoke it's the closest Venue I've been to that mimics the Casino, from the inside at least. Anyway Good Luck Elaine, this week will show if your stars gonna shine bright and I think it will blaze like a Comet because it's seems finally there's a film that actually show the scene as it was. So Friday it's off to York to watch it and remember just how it was, I feel a dance coming on, now where's me knee brace, ankle brace, fiery jack muscle cream and me anti inflammatory cream, got em, oh bu**ar records finished, next time hey!!!!!!!!!

Take care, be safe & remember," Long after tonight is all over, long after tonight is gone, I'll be yours for ever and a day I know",

Spot, the all nighter scenes were filmed at the King George's Hall in Blackburn.  All the youngsters came from all over the country and had attended the regular dance clubs in London and Bolton that were started a couple of years prior to filming.  There was certainly enough to fill the dance floor when I went down to witness the filming.  The "older" extras were used around the edges of the floor for the long shots.

That's mostly why I'm taking my 19 yr old son on Sunday, Ian. He only thinks of Northern Soul as 'Dad dancing' as came to a club I was running a few years back & it was full of us old'uns  :D

Mmm. I should really take my 19 year old daughter. Right now she's a Deep House diva but the film puts her dancing to shame.....

There are no cinemas near me showing the film I'm afraid unless I go into London. Probably wait for the DVD release but it would have been nice to have it shown near the aylesbury / high Wycombe area.. Seems Northern soul on this occasion is for the Northerners!!

No matter Ive piles of Deep House... I can get me hit there!,,,
