A couple of weeks ago, I bought an old mate’s record collection and while going through the reissues section I saw stacks of things that I used to love, and have on vinyl, and it got me thinking that I ought to actually keep a few of these for myself.  So please find here for your listening pleasure, my ‘lost’ records come home again, and wow do they make for a fantastic set, if you’re not into Wigan oldies I wouldn’t even bother listening because only about 5 are post-Wigan but for those who do remember those times, these were some of the best records ever played at any venue, let alone the Casino.

Although I never went to Wigan I was up with what was being played and also aware of the way that `Wigan records` were ridiculed by the `Soul establishment` based mainly in the southeast. But I must admire Clive Richardson for his later recognition of some of the amazing sounds that were discovered and played there once he had allowed the dust to settle. As we know, the critics at the time were far too keen to pick out the small minority of sounds of a Pop nature and announce that they were typical of the playlist. I for one think that the Flock and Jades for example are top notch sounds that have stood the test of time what ever their category.

I presume it's just a 'catch all' term for those who take any and every opportunity to blame the Casino for everything from Hitlers invasion of Poland to the current Ebola outbreak (it started in the toilets). It seems whenever Station Rd is mentioned out come the usual suspects with the usual 'Pop shite, tourists,  Spencers and Soussan' comments. And of course Wigan was just full of Divs for eight years because 'Real' soul fans went to all those other great 70's venue's  which only ever played quality rare soul.

Pete, re the blue and silver copy of the Del larks in your original post. I was told that the black and silver was the original and that the blue and silver (which I have) was a boot? just interested  as re-classifying my collection :-)

Blue and silver is the original issue - black and silver is the original demo - though nobody appears to have seen a demo until a long time after the issues were first found.  I sold the above for over 5 grand earlier this year and it was definitely an original!

that is a premier cru list pete, yes some champagne tunes there from the golden era....apologies...had to read into the post twice to understand what you meant by bought a collection...wow! anyone, not just yourself, would've had to sell their house to buy all that lot....then it clicked about the re-issues   i genuinely thought you'd hit the jackpot pal!.....margaret mandolph....as already commented on here......pep introduced a lot of us to this, before wigan was even aware..sammies all-nighters copped for it as well......all those cassette players on the stage...wish i still had me photo's of back then

No I did buy a 'proper' collection Rob but I sold all the originals in one go so they never went public, there were 350 pressings as well so I kept those and siphoned off a handful for myself to keep, hence the podcast..
