I can remember getting into the Casino on that first night to the strains of the Sherry s, my mate Kevin Horsewood , Moira and Penny were all northern soul novices at the time, we'd arrived in Wigan at 8 that night not realizing the whole thing didn't kick off until 1,so we were pretty much 1st in the queue, having only had one previous outing to The Raven in WItchurch, we thought every record played was a Wigan exclusive, seem to remember the Invitations Skiing in the Snow,Patti Austin Music to my Heart & Pain stain as well as Melba Moore Don't Cry being featured during those early days.Great to hear Gwen and Ray again (rare one that).

Great podcast looking forward to the next one

Thanks Pete,

John

My memories of early Wigan spins, a lot from other clubs, but never the less all played in the 1st few weeks.

Sherrys, Mike Post, R.D. Taylor, Mel Wynn, Mel Williams, The Fuzz, Earl Grant, Marketts, Sons of Moses, David & The Giants, Lynn Randall, Patti Young, Vel-Vets, Four Seasons,

Capitols, Frankie Beverly, Saxie Russell, Linda Jones, Memphis Horns, Watts 103rd Street R.B. Herb Ward, Volcanos, Mr Blow, Invitations, Joe Hicks, Melba Moore, Mylestones, Dottie Cambridge, Detroit Sound, Gladys Knight, Marvelettes, Kenny Gamble, Gloria Jones, Robert Knight, Ace Cannon, Willie Kendricks, Nancy Ames, Sapphires, Wally Cox, Stanley Mitchell, Drifters, Reflections,

Also after a few weeks in Levine did a spot and some of the records he played were,

The other David & The Giants, Eddie Foster, Twans, Melvin Carter, Edie Walker, Gene Chandler, Tony & Tyonne, Tomangoes, Terrible Tom

I'd have included many of those Dave but I could only use what I'd got on vinyl.

Lynne Randell, Four Seasons, Joe Hicks are on the next one.

I think Pointer Sisters is already on part 2 Rob (Posted up).  Dean Courtney, Salvadors also.  Todays People is scheduled for part 3 (early 1976).  I don't think Robin Wilson really broke out of St Giles LOL Baltimore I had down as earlier than Wigan, probably wrong, Eddie Foster I hadn't got.

Yeah, I know what you mean but I think it was released Dec 75/Jan 76. It charted in 76. I get confused because I have the old Levine stuff on his 'Tomorrow' label, which were done at the same time.

But the Tomorrow things were pre release demos that all the DJ's etc got, they were out for ages before the records came out - Doomsday was the follow up to Weak Spot, I have that on a Wigan tape from September 75, as with LJ Johnson.

Both the one's from Evelyn Thomas, Barbara Pennington & L J Johnson plus the Excitiers stuff, hit the decks in the summer of 75.
