Price Guides, The Market And Chaos

Couple this forum with Soul Talk, and you probably have an critical mass of raresoul knowledge, definately a voice of authority on Rare Soul collecting. Maybe now its time to form a working group/committee to build our own 'online' price/knowledge reference data base. Maybe we can include scans, info - first played, availability.. risers and fallers etc. We'd need some rules, but might work.

We would probably need a formula to calculate fair value as opposed purely to going rate. Possibly ... Rarity x Quality x Popularity with an index for grade. Might be a bit judgemental at first, but its got to be better than what we've got right now???

Thoughts???

Could be a good idea, and I know you've said "judgemental at first", BUT even with a working group/committee with as much input from as many "sources" as you like then surely it's stiill just "opinion" of whoever....????

BUT, again, if it can be made to "work" then I'd have to say "go for it".... whoever can spare the time and commitment....

on above

it is something similar been working towards using the "sounds" format

so the basic format of something like this is already available

which could be expanded

could use the forum format - but itis very inflexiable and uncustomnable

could use a seperate sytem - disadantages - none of below

or could use current system - this would be ideal imo as all the other features suchj as comment system, usernames, search and rest are all ready present and built in

if use adapted current sounds format

it would offer the folowing

each track could have the following

unlimited text desc

sound clip

unlimted pics

each track can be commented on - thus all can eaily add text updates etc

rated

database based

as database it can be searchable and can be listed by various cats

at moment tracks can be listed by

title

date

rating

popularity

user who submitted

these fields can be added to include possibility of by label, value, booted, etc

and thusthen could be listed as well

also can use categorys in various ways -

user friendly

anyone can submit (needs approval)

anyone can add comment

content

tracks can be either submitted single - time consuming

or can be submitted in batch either via sound clips or text

just added 100 odd tracks to demo -

inital content setup is thus easy and also rights can be given to a group to edit/add/improve the inital text description

soul fans -

as said anyone (member/non-member) can submit, comment or read

a group can be set up to have overall control of submissions and such

the

overall

currently the sounds and to a lesser degree the flyer gallery can give a basic idea of one way it could work - bear in mind the design and setup is set up to a slighty different use -stuff like the auto-stream, graphics, layoutwhich can be altered

have a look at the single sounds section here

https://www.soul-source.co.uk/myalbum...ewcat.php?cid=1

a example with description scans added and comments

https://www.soul-source.co.uk/myalbum...p?lid=135&cid=1

a no -soundclip example

https://www.soul-source.co.uk/myalbum...p?lid=186&cid=1

site view - is this is the easiest solution to set up and use

as said the basic bones of it are already avail, its just the fleshing out (content) that is the main thing to sort

let us know views/thoughts?

we once tried this on the old soultalk email list and it got lost in nowheres land. Also that aspect only leaves the factor "demand" totall aside and becuase of that can not describe a recourds value in full.
