Rick Smith
I bought some stuff off ebay from I think it was 'into the groove'. Seems to work really well. He has a load of chemical guff on his site, don't know if it's got Isopropyl in it though. Sounds like something Walter White might might have used. Godzilla
Isopropyl is just isopropyl, surely?https://www.amazon.co.uk/SHL-BRAND-ISOPROPANOL-Isopropyl-Alcohol/dp/B003D8QFR8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421845642&sr=8-1&keywords=alcohol+isopropyl 2 Link to comment Social source share

Amsterdam Russ
having tried a foam based cleaner which worked well i'm looking to try the liquid version, anyone care to recommend a brand and supplier..thanks in advance.. Get down to your local chemist and ask for a bottle of the stuff. They should stock it for cleaning wounds and the like and it's generally cheaper than sources who sell it as a specialist computer-cleaning or record-cleaning solution. Amsterdam Russ
Amazon - 99.9% pure isopropyl alcohol: £19 for 5 litres of the stuff! That would just about last a lifetime of record cleaning. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00ECZJEPQ 1 Link to comment Social source share
Still Diggin
Cotton wool pads that the lady gets her make up of with, dunk in white vinigar (it's gin clear) and incredibly good at removing all dirt, smoke damage, juke wear deposits, you name it. Then finish with isopropyl. I find that the most effective and cheapest method. It is surprizing how soon small bottles of isopropyl go down.Or as russ mentioned above buying in bulk. MotownDave
most chemists don't stock isopropyl alcohol these days , I tried every chemist in town and none could even order it for me . mind you ,you can order it online fairly cheep and delivery isn't going to take forever Link to comment Social source share

Cotton wool pads are also great for leaving lots of small fibres deep in the groove. It's lint free cloth you want. I've also deducted 5 points for poor spelling* * vinegar 1 Link to comment Social source share

Worth mentioning to those who haven't used this stuff before - don't use it to clean acetates. Edited January 22, 2015 by Russell Gilbert Link to comment Social source share

I've also deducted 5 points for poor spelling* * vinegar I understand exactly what you are trying to say about cotton wool, and i have heard this before. But the fact is cotton has no binding agent, and it is the only material which is both soft enough and flexible enough to get in the grooves. In it's dry form cotton breaks up easily but hardly at all when wet. The weight ratio of cotton combined with the lack of binding agent means if any does break of on the record it will just blow off when dry. Lint free cloths will not depress enough to get in the grooves , so you will remove some but not all. To make something lint free it has to have a binder, or specific weave, it is this that restricts the flexibility. You will end up polishing shit! Ever thought why a lint free cloth is used to make the rubber for french polishing? Plenty of spelling mistakes for ya Link to comment Social source share
