That's Tim Asebendie (can't spell it!) and Butch in the background so I presume it's a little crowd from Stoke is it? Don't think either of them come on here but you're bound to find Butch somewhere

Ohh.....are we not good enough for them then? thumbsup.gif

Used to go the Casino pretty regulary with Butch. Can remember the girls face in the picture, but can't put a name to her. If i had a gues she might come from Crewe. But ! it would'nt be unlike Tim and Butch just to get on the photo because they probably knew that something like this thread would come up in years to come. The thing i find a bit strange about the photo is why are there pint pots with ale in them on the tables, i never knew of ale being served at any of the Casino Nighters and it was a very very unusual thing to see pint pots on tables from a earlier session of whatever music at the Nighters. The photo of Junior is just for my reference of the best artist i saw at the Casino. Gutted, missed seeing Jackie Wilson at the Casino as i got held up at Congelton Railway station on the way back from Burnley when the guard stuck is head out of the wimdow and got wacked by a open door of another train which was passing in the opposite direction. Truly gutted by missing that occassion.

Mandy, if that is Tim Ashibendie was he stood in a hole.

I have e-mailed the picture to Tim Fletcher, he is unsure if it is himself, comes to something when you cant identify yourself  ... he does not think it is Butch and Tim.

Kaz do you know who the photographer was  it is just a few posts back Mandy suggested I needed a trip to Spesavers for not being 100% sure it was Tim and Butch.

It should be said I can see the resemblance to Tim and Butch, it was just the height thing that made be doubt it.

Cheers Kim,the more i look at the pic it does remind me of Chris..Chris was from Prestatyn originally and did travel to the casino with the north wales lot...i thought his name was Chris Richards but Brian Rae was telling me t`o`ther year he may have used a differant surname,i last seen chris in the late 80s when he lived in Newton Le Willows and he used to work in the Expansion record shop in Manchester....so if anyone has any info  .

Yep - it's the Selby / Harrogate crowd (before Graham was old enough to grow a tash ! ) the guy with specs looks like a young Saus  (is it ???) .

Expansion Records , Manchester , Saturday afternoons in the company of Searling, Davey Malloy and Dave Withers - now we are talking .

What happened ?? - Sigh :tumbleweed3:

Can't be of any help in your ongoing search for Chris. I used to help out in Expansion on a Saturday while Chris & Phil were there, had a good laugh and some great tunes from there. Lost track of him myself when he moved to London. He seemed to disapear off the planet after that.

If my sketchy memory serves me correctly I think you & I met via Chris on at least one occasion, I think it may have been at the Carleton Morecambe but there is a bit of a fog in the old memory banks.

Good luck in your search, if you have any luck it would be good to get in touch with Mr Smooth.

Cheers Nick....dont worry my memory is sketchy,so do you reckon that is Chris in the pic? im sure it was/is but when others begin telling you its so and so i started to doubt it myself.

Nick where did you know Chris from? i used to go to The shop in Manchester quite often to meet Chris before we went of to a niter and do you have any more on where he went/what names he was using etc....you can personal message me if you dont want to post any private stuff ok?.

Here's the text that goes with the picture . . .

Martin

The Lancashire Hot Pot.

When a council worker's oxyacetyline torch accidentally turned an already decimated Wigan Casino into a raging fireball, the fight to salvage Wigan's most popular attraction came to an abrupt end. The police, magistrates and local council had almost certainly decided to end the club's life, destroying a valuable source of entertainment and revenue which Wigan has since failed to emulate. Regulars will no doubt remember the council's declaration that the lease was due to expire at the begining of 1980. In fact, elaborate plans had been drafted to install computers and extend the adjoining Civic Centre. By 1980 a £70,000 repair bill on the roof alone persuaded the council to demolish. DJ Russ Winstanley suffered the real defeat. It's one-time crusader shakes a fist full of acid memories at the subject, "I did everything possible to save the building being demolished - even organised several businessmen to put in a large bid to save it . . . the council didn't want to hear." Former Casino manager, Gerry Marshall now lives in financial retirement on the outskirts of the town. And Russ? Doing a good job is like wetting yourself in a dark suit - you get a warm feeling inside but nobody notices.

  • 5 years later...

If that is Tim, then someone cut his legs off, cuz he's way taller than Butch, Guy with the glasses is it a very young Bernie Golding ???

100% NOT Bernie Golding, since I;ve know Bernie for a very long time.

Bernie never looked that young by the time Wigan opened, maybe at The Top Rank Preston late 72 / early 73 he might have done.

Looking at what people are wearing it looks like late 70s and not the early days.

Bernie would have been in is mid 20s by than and the guy in the glasses is only about 17 or 18.

I still think that it is Toad (Tim Fletcher)
