That was from Poke too - he liked it but felt the condition was too rough to play it out - a great track though!

Nice to see Poke getting some long overdue credit, maybe you ought to start a thread solely dedicated to Poke, then Rich ?

He's still got a great DJ presence as witnessed during his cameo appearance in the Soul Bowl room at Prestatyn.

Dave Charles was first time out by Butch at Blackburn c/u as Dave Charles, double bluff! Still got the tape of Butch's spot I recorded that night.

Actually I had it c/u as Dave Charles and I had it before Butch as well, It first came from Martin Koppel then young Nick Brown turned up a few copies, I grabbed a spare from there and played it uncovered, Ady Croasdell & Butch got it shortly after.

When I think about it, give or take, what JW had and played at that time, plus much of the stuff he moved on and which got played subsequently, just about sums up my collecting aspirations over a thirty odd year period.

So, for the fact that I've never had, haven't got and will never have any bloody money, thanks a bundle Jimmy lol.

The best thing was when he sold up the prices were very reasonable, off the top of my head:

Frank Beverly-Because of My Heart- 75

Barbara Acklin-Special Agent- 75

Deadbeats - Strata -100

Melvin Davis - Wheel City - 125

Limelights - Uncle - 150

Romona Collins - Clarks -35

Johnny Hampton - Dotty's - 75

Plus there was tons of good semi knowns for 25 and under!

Nice one, I'll need to dig that tape out, sure he says first time out on it. Remember Jim Tennent brought half dozen or so copies back from the States later on that year.

It probably was the first time out at Blackburn I would've been there too, not the UK though as I'd played it at the 100 Club.

Who did Joan Baker go to Rob?  He sold Keb a spare before he sold up.

Any more titles from his sets?

Great guy Jimmy, always kept his cards close, rarely expressed himself over tunes.lve known Jim since the 70ts if I remember Jimmy rarely attended soul night's if any in the 70ts,met up with him again late nineties at a local colliery.I at the time obtained a few Mp3 s with over 1000 + tracks on,Millionaires only groovesville stuff etc.Jimmy also had the same 20 quid.Briefly met Jimmy in a local Boozer soon after at the Anvil Mansfield Woodhouse with his cowboy boots & Stetson on.& believe it or not he didn't look like a Div.To this day I think he's still on the Fairground.

Shame Jimmy didn't push himself a bit more, he always seemed to be a reluctant DJ.
