England 25-3 Oh Dear

You select your best players if you want to win....then it's down to the coach to get the best out of the team.

KP should be in the team, he has the ability to turn a test match in a single session.

Even if he makes the rest of the team play badly?

I think that's their problem ,not his .

it's all about management of players i.e.  Cantona ,Suarez etc.  genius is sometimes hard to mange but look at the results that can be achieved.

judgement on cook for his anti peterson stance?

i wonder if we can recover

cook definitely spoke with his bat today. ahem.

as long as the dressing room has a frilly atmosphere who cares about the talent within it.

he doesnt make the rest of the team play badly the players do.

that and poor management / captaincy.

i feel its a convenient excuse. problem is they still look sh+t without him so how does that argument they make work exactly. it falls down when you got 4 out before lunch.

Disappointing to lose Butler to the last ball of the day but 354-7 after a terrible opening hour is a fine effort.

Can we move on from KP? England's problems do not centre around the middle order. Lets see what we do with the ball when NZ bat.

KP is injured so wouldn't have played even if he was allowed to and as said our problems are with the ball and the top order.  The top order selection was set back with the Trott fiasco.

But back to yesterday. Fantastic recovery after top order shambles.  Young players playing without fear and with attacking intent when the pressure was on as well.  Maybe their bowling would have been better if better prepared for r5 day cricket ?

Yesterday will have given Stokes, Butler etc the confidence needed going into the summer with tougher tests to come.  Shame Stokes and Root didn't make the centuries they deserved.

That isn't down to KP.  As said the captaincy under Cooke has been at times eeally poor.  Negative, safety first wehn the rest of the world play a more postive attacking brand of cricket.  The selection of players woefully out of form, captains mates, Trott for instance who was not up to it anymore (certainly not an opener) has set us back as well.

We were the world's number one team at all forms of cricket with KP in the side but with better captains.

Wasn't Trott suffering from depression though Chalky.? Similar story to Trescothic ?

He says not, fully fit.  He wasn't an opener before and it is totally different to coming in at number three.  He wasn't good enough to open, he even admitted it.  If he hadn't he would probably still be opening now with his mate Cooke knowing how they like to keep faith with out of form players.  Playing Trott set us back even further, we could have played Lyth and let him get some time in the middle and find his feet in time for the Aussies.  They took him to the Caribbean and all they gave him was practice   Trott should never have got a recall IMO.
