Innocent Bystanders / Frantic Escape / Crime (Doesn’t Pay) / Atlantic / USA / 1970s / M- / £25

Stunning (issue) copy of this outstanding Detroit (Popcorn Wylie) NS oldie – right back to the dawn of the ‘scene, people...will try and mail in an Atlantic custom sleeve if I have one at the time – this actually doesn’t turn up too often and – again – I believe issues to be rarer than demos...originally issued on local Detroit label, Pameline...

Jimmy Williams / I’m So Lost / Walking On Air / Atlantic (black) / UK / 1965 / M- / £20

Immaculate black label copy of this highly-collected Atlantic release – very, very tough to find as clean as this...

Paul Kelly / Chills And Fever / Atlantic / UK / 1965 / Ex+ / £25

Again – beautiful black label copy – in it’s rarest form here – ever-indemand Northern Soul / Popcorn oldie that just will not go away – Tom Jones’ version is possibly THE rarest one on 7” but this is second only to that, I believe – stunna...

Prince Buster and the Charmers / Rollin’ Stone / Blue Beat / UK / 1963 / Ex / £30

Backed by Rico and his Blues Band doing This Day on the flip – this is a mighty double-sider, lotsa scuffs and a tiny bit of crackle but not bad at all for a 52 year old disc – barely visible label markings present too – minimal, believe me – massive Buster tune...

Winston & Roy Count Ossie on the African Drums / Babylon Gone / First Gone / Blue Beat / UK / 1962 / Ex / £30

Rare, early Nyah Bingy business from Count Ossie & Co on this tuff Buster release – both sides dark and heavily Rasta-influenced – lonnnnng before Roots Reggae even started in JA, heavily mystical – again – nice copy – clean labels, dinked middle, some scuffs, slight crackle but – amazing shape for a 53 year old rekkid...

Sammy Spear / Evil Ways / Something / Blue Book / USA / 1960s / M- / £30

Beautiful copy of a TUFF Latin Funk-Soul double-sider – on it’s original local label press here before being picked up by Juggy Murray Jones’s Juggernaut imprint for wider release – super tough on this issue, believe me – 2 stunning Club sides – loadsa mileage in this 45 yet, believe me - even the Juggernaut press rarely shows up for sale, folks...crazy fuzzed up version - wonderful...

1619 B.A.B / World / For Your Love / Brown Sugar / USA / 1973 / USA / M- / £40

Rumours of the existence of a 1619 B.A.B LP are still as yet unsubstantiated..I’ve certainly yet to run into one – must be an absolute GRAIL...here we have 2 completely cracking Deep Funk sides from that (supposed) LP – in absolutely tip-top shape too – 99% likely unplayed

Jackie Wilson / I’ve Lost You / Those Heartaches / Brunswick / USA / 1967 / M- / £20

Outstanding Jackie double-sider – in immaculate shape

The Artistics / Nothing But Heartaches (Keep Haunting Me) / You Make Me Happy / Brunswick / USA / 1968 / M- / £20

Yet another cracking Brunswick double-sider this list – immaculate shape – small (clean) drill-hole, nothing more...

The Standells / Dirty Water / Capitol / UK / 1967 / £40

Lovely, lovely (rare, much tougher than the USA issue) UK press of this Mod / Beat / Garage / Frat House standard – best version here by a country mile (and, as we know, there are literally 100s and 100s of versions of this out there) beautiful condish too and presented in a lovely Capitol custom sleeve with Rari on the flip too which is also ace

Stunning copy, barely played – here on a red/silver issue press copy – 2 gorgeous sides for yer dollar...wonderful Detroit sounds...

Deon Jackson / That’s What You Do To Me / I Can Do Without You / Carla / USA / 1966 / M- / £30

Lovely Black-White demo copy here – more Detroit magic from Mike Terry and co – immaculate shape – clean labels – in it’s correct (and clean) Atco custom sleeve too – total bargain, stunning piece...silly price

Deon Jackson / Love Takes A Long Time Growing / Hush Little Baby / Carla / USA / 1966 / M- / £10

Part 3 in my Deon Jackson triptych for this List – another beauty – sadly the label on the top side has some h2o damage so I’ve priced this accordingly – 95% of text still legible but it must be noted – ok? Black-White demo copy here again too – Ollie McLaughlin on the desk this time, such a beautiful artist...

Ray Agee / We’re Drifting Apart / Your Precious Love / Celeste / USA / 1960s / M- / £25

Did you know that Ray was one of seventeen (yes, 17!) siblings..!? I’m surprised he was even able to find a pair of pants to put on in the morning, never mind churning out wonderful R&B / early-Soul / Popcorn sounds like this...beautiful copy of a rare record on a RARE label...stunning sounds

The Vontastics / Day Tripper / My Baby / Chess (black) / UK / 1966 / M- / £12

Cracking, uptempo Soul / instru-mental version of The Beatles tune from this Stax houseband – original / first (black label issue) UK press here – had NS action right back in the day, I believe...no surprises – clean labels too...

Very, very obscure Northern double-sider outta Detroit – very little info available, absolutely and totally Mint

Roger James Four / Leave Me Alone / Columbia / UK / 1965 / Ex / £30

Rare, rare UK-only Mod / Beat 45 – my first-ever copy – highly collectable – in correct (green and white) Columbia custom sleeve, fantastic sound – would go very well played before or after The Standells Dirty Water from a few entries back, eh?

The Exotics / Big Time Charlie / Like You Hurt Me / Coral / USA / 1960s / VG / £15

Cool yellow-black Demo copy of this Popcorn / early-Soul double-sider – some scuffs but plays beautifully – minimal WOL – extra pic available – must be rare...!

The Mohawks / The Champ / Sound Of The Witch Doctors / Cotillion / USA / 1968 / M- / £40

Beautiful copy – black/white Promo here too – all-time classic Funky-Reggae instrumentals, is this USA press THE rarest issue of this 7”..? I believe it is – it certainly comes up for sale less than either of the original UK Pama presses, great, great copy here...

Jericho Brown / Lonesome Drifter / I Need You / Del-Fi / USA / 1960s / VG+ / £25

Nice WDJ copy of this KILLER Popcorn / early-Soul / R&B tune – very, very tricky to turn up – clean labels, again – lovely Demo copy here

Certified I-M-P-O-S-S-I-B-L-E to find OG green / red / white label press here (NOT the later yellow / green reissue!) for this stunning Roots cut from Freddie and Chinna – actually a thinly-disguised version of Norman Connors’s You Are My Starship which just goes off into stoner land on the Dub, amazing 45 and only my second or third (original) copy after 23 years in the business – don’t sleep...

The Impressions / Amen / Long, Long Winter / HMV / UK / 1965 / VG / £8

In it’s correct (red/white) HMV custom sleeve comes this delicious Impressions 45 – rough copy but plays extremely well – has been thru my VPI machine here, such a beautiful thing to own – tiny WOL, practically invisible

Herb & Doris / I’ll Be The One feat. Doris / Disco Strut feat. Herb / Hip / USA / 1974 / M- / £12

“Most Bizarre Group Name Of The List” prize stays right here...! Imagine calling your act Herb & Doris and having any chance whatsoever of making it......FFS...topside is a nice mid-tempo 70s dancer  but I prefer the flip which is a MOOG-laden, messy. Prot-Disco beater which I have absolutely never, ever heard of before – West Coast schnizz...unplayed copy, so, Doris was obviously the singer and Herb was the MOOG player...these guys also had a Northern tune too - title escapes me...

Barrino Brothers / When Love Was A Child / I Shall Not Be Moved / Invictus / USA / 1971 / M- / £30

Vernon & Jewels / The Thought Of You / Baby, You Got What It Takes / Kayo / USA / 1960s / VG- / £10

Clyde Otis side project here – appears to be very rare...this one looks like the proverbial dog’s dinner but, incredibly, actually plays like a VG+...hard to categorise – like a cross between R&B, Garage and Rock n’Roll – crazy 45 – some WOL and label rub to both sides, generally in rough shape – but – definitely has great merits musically....not selling this one to y’all very well, am I?

James Brown / Funky Drummer pts 1 & 2 / King / USA / 1970 / M- / £40

Right up there in the ‘All-Time Greatest Drum Breaks Ever’ Hall of Fame comes this monster, without this break – and stuff like The Incredible Bongo Band, Amen Brother etc etc – there would be NO Hip-Hop folks – OG brown/orange label USA press

Presented here in the correct (blue/white) Liberty custom sleeve – this copy is worn, folks, but, like a few others on this List, plays well above grade – like a VG – sure, there’s some background crackle and it looks rough but it plays great – dinked middle too and tiny WOL to flipside label...bargain - stunning Northern double-sider

NF Porter / Keep On Keeping On / Don’t Make Me Color My Black Face Blue / Lizard / USA / 1971 / M- / £20

Used to be sooooooo common – not no more – all-time classic Northern Soul / Mod / Skinhead classic club cut – this IS Northern Soul for many people...definite OG dark red label West Coast press with company credits round bottom of label and not round top like the later issue/s – still sounding amazing...

Rare UK release for JD on this tiny, seldom-seen (never seen?) The Memphis Men / Act Naturally / Oh What A Night / Miramar / USA / 1960s / M- / £50
