sorry folks but i am gonna have to rant here! i am the mother of a son with autism i cant call him a child anymore as he is 21 but according to the court of protection i am his appointee as he is unable to act for himself i manage his money etc as he is unable to hold a bank account...knowing a few of you here have offspring with special needs of one sort or another how do you feel about this?...not only is he charged extortionate amounts for his care costs mileage etc and left with the basic minimum to live on ( the government says regardless of disability a person aged between 18-24 can live on £56 a week) bear in mind that has to cover food clothing travel etc( he doesnt drink or smoke lol)...he also pays a service charge for where he lives this should cover upkeep of the gardens internal decor etc yet they only act on this if a neighbour complains about the hedge that grows over the bus stop not if i or his carers complain! the room he sleeps in is damp and this has been an ongoing thing ( nearly 2 years!) so damp he cannot keep his clothing in it...we have one rotten bed binned one rotten memory foam mattress binned we have had dehumidifiers vents and allsorts fitted in an attempt to fix the problem ( thats me btw not the housing people) and everytime i complain on his behalf i get a reply that says ive sent an email the complaint has been logged...how many f*cking complaints does it need??...and the reason to make me rant even more today??....my son who has little/no communication skills cannot care for himself has a 1 to 1 carer and needs help with every aspect of his waking life has been asked to take part in a fitness to work interview! i chose to try and have him live as independently as possible i wont be here for ever and i certainly dont want his brother to be eternally responsible for him...lets see them sh*t temselves now i have just sent an email declaring that as my sons room is not fit for habitation i shall have him back to live with me at home...oops that means i will need rehousing as i dont have a bedroom for him...oh and i will have to give up my full time job to care for him...i will of course need adaptations to the house you will provide me with at a cost to local government of course...i will of course get very stressed as a carer and will need respite care for my son...again at cost to local government...oops my washing machine broke i cant wash my disabled sons clothing...oh thats ok social services will give me money for a new machine...having signed on the dole for a whole 2 weeks of my adult life i will claim every f*cking benefit going...so tell me will this cost less than fixing a damp problem and doing some gardening??

Typical sort of shit we see day in and day out. Sorry, that you're having to go through it. We're a bit hard pushed at the minute but if you want I will see if I can get one of our housing case workers to give the landlord a call. PM me if that would be helpful and I'll see what I can do.

Peter

sounds like your son has a housing disrepair claim. i do not know where he is based but McGrath and Co solicitors in Birmingham specialise in this area and may be able to help.

COOKIE. Go for the jugular and f*ck the lot of them!.

Most of these arseholes in local housing offices are nothing more than pen pushers and paper shufflers who have no idea and grasp of what people like your son and as a result you yourself have to contend with on a daily basis.

MAKE EM PAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cookie ,have a look into claiming ESA if you haven't already, for your son.

My heart goes out to you .Chin up......Kev.

He gets ESA kev but they hand it to him with one hand and charge him more than for his care costs and service charges etc...its a shameful state of affairs that if i didnt buy his clothing new shoes etc theres no way he could afford to himself...i know there are some no necks abusing the benefits system but this government seems to be systematically attacking the most vulnerable people in our society those that cant stand up and fight for themselves!
