Northern Soul tagged mainstream events

Sunday 30 August 2015 saw the first ever Manchester Soul Festival to be held at The Printworks in aid of The Christie. 

Over thirty solo acts, bands and artists performed and over 3,500 people came through our doors to dance the night away.

We raised a phenomenal amount of money and we hope to reveal the grand total to you very soon.

The Printworks and The Christie would like to thank all our fantastic Northern Soul supporters for their donations and coming along to what was a fantastic day.

Read 18 grand raised so far and that's great news!

dunno about the rest though 30 + bands etc whats that all about ?

Looks like it was actually 30 + bands and DJs, with the live acts including a band The Casino All Stars - presumably NS covers bands then? As for whether using the term in the title makes it a Northern Soul event - well if playing garage, country, teen records etc at Northern Soul venues makes 'em NS records, I don't see why not

Besides, lots of flared trousers evident in the pics so it must have been one....

We went to the Printworks, saw plenty of people we knew from the scene, was it a Northern event, my own personal view probably not a popular one is not in the conventional sense as there were as you would expect given the main venue a very large proportion of  people not off the scene. Other than the All Stars none of the acts we saw sang any Northern songs just the popular Motown and stuff like the Drifters. Bonus of the day if you can call it that was a surprise guesting with the Casino Allstars of Wayne Fontana who can still belt out a tune. Plenty of people seemed to be having a great time so maybe we were in the minority ,we'd had enough by about eight o'clock. Most of the music we heard played was of the top 500 variety but I would guess other stuff was played elsewhere in the various venues within the Printworks. All for a good cause but if they were to make it an annual event I doubt I would be moved to go again. In this case it was billed as a Soul Festival and I guess it was that.

Couldn't make it due to work but plenty of regular soulies did. Including some djs. It wasn't about a northern soul event, it was about Christie hospital and the fabulous work they do. Only one room was classified as a northern soul room and that was tiger tiger upstairs. Every where in the whole of the print works was dedicated to soul music in whatever form. As mentioned it was classified as . Manchester soul music festival in aid of the  Christie. Every artist and Dj played for free. £18,000 and counting awesome amount.

Over 35,000 soulies from up and down the country made their way to The Printworks on Sunday, 30th August to enjoy live music from over 30 bands and artists, paying tribute to Motown and soul music, in aid of The Christie Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
