I'm sure this was done a couple of years ago? Anyway my guilty pleasure was always the Four Seasons Opus 17 although nowadays I don't feel any guilt -I just enjoy it as a great 60's pop memory jerker.

Seem to think it was done a few years ago. Opus 17 a great Dave Evison play from Mr M's. Nothing wrong with that one mate

From the comments I've read on here I definitely shouldn't admit to this but ever since I first heard it as a teenager over 40 years ago I've always had a soft spot for the snake

I love a big city pop stomper like Jerry Naylor's City Lights (awesome song, get it reissued on CD properly at Kent).   I adore all of Spiral Starecase, David & The Giants, Jay & The Techniques, Jay & The Americans, Robert John etc.   I think it's the optimistic sunny sound, ace melodies and great delivery in such as in Mama Cass' 'Gettin' Better'.  I also enjoy the 1970s USA jazzy/soul/rock West Coast sound.  I've stopped finding them guilty now.   My wife loves Brian Hyland 'The Joker Is Wild' and doesn't differentiate between that and something more 'authentic' by James Carr (to pick a name).

Talking of Guilty Pleasures - I hope Kent is doing a volume 2 of their Northern Soul Guilty Pleasure CD.

Twenty years ago I wouldn't listen to anything non-sixties but now I listen more to Modern Soul and even 1980's boogie & 2-step.  There's a world of great soul to enjoy and outside of soul events the difference in styles seems to matter much less.

You can't beat a bit of Van Morrison - I think some of his stuff is very soulful.

And yes, we've done this before but who cares!

These are not guilty pleasures... CLASSICS in my book.... OK I know its a Bee Gees track but away from "rare soul" the Yvonne Elliman track is an all time favourite.....!

Haven't heard this since I was a kid.... and it is kind of catchy and "Northern" in guilty pleasure way!!! I'm too young to have been there, but do you reckon Russ Winstanley would have dared put this on the decks at Wigan....!!!???? Sound no worse than some of the "others" I've heard...!

Nice one Brian. I was a really late admirer of Van - but he's superb. Backed up by proper musicians and amazing chorus/harmony vocalists. And he does have soul - he did a duet with Bobby W.

All the best mate.

Peter

This will upset a few on here (LOL) . . . . . but I love a bit of Old Skool Country & Western. Especially the ladies.

3 sample vids to follow. Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette (duetting with Merle Haggard), and Emmylou Harris.

All 3 drop dead gorgeous and talent by the bucket load. They make my heart go pitter patter. :)

Nothing to upset me with there.... I grew up listening to this stuff thanks to my father.... especially Emmylou Harris.... I always used to make out I hated this stuff, but always had a soft spot for a few tracks... especially the "Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town" album by Emmylou Harris....

That's lovely Mal.

How old were you? I probably wouldn't have appreciated that when I was a young lad.

Totally agree - she really does have the voice of an angel and I'd never heard of her until someone on here did a post of her a year or so ago!

I think her version of Beneath Still Waters is something very special.

I bought his early albums and saw him live a couple of times in the 1980s. Magnificent.

Further to Maryam's mention above of Gram Parsons I believe this track was written by Gram.

Sorry if it offends but to me this is Soul music.

It hits me like a hammer blow in my soul - so how can it not be. :)
