I’ll break your fall, so that love that hurts is gone

Yeah, I can get the second part. Might need to listen more closely for the first bit, but definitely getting there.

Thanks Simon

Gonna Be A Big Thanks to Simon T.  My mate will be pleased, although I hope this doesn't mean he'll be singing along in future!

I know it's a chestnut but I'd still love to know if anyone has figured out Roy Handy's reference to fish and chips!

The opening lines to the magnetics count the days have had me baffled for years

Sounds like " i thought my game was on and my whole world inside was"... but that makes no sense to the rest of that verse

the fact he mummbles it... is..... the only bad thing on what for me is soul perfection

Doesn't he sing "we picked up a bag of fish and chips and headed for a place called home"?

Roy Handy - 'Baby that's a groove' - Surely the first verse says "Fish and Chips" impossible, but then it was co-written by George Clinton ! :

I suppose if he was recording it now it would be "we picked up a doner kebab with chilli sauce". However...

Back in the 70's I was convinced that the Magnificent 7's "She's Called a Woman" was actually called "Cheesecloth Woman" - but then that was 70's all nighter PA, I didn't know what the record was called and people did still wear chesecloth back then............

Bobby Garrett (Relf) is the one that has been doing my head in for thirty years!

Usually I'm pretty good but...

Verse two: Just like the ........................., of a clown, sometimes I'm up sometimes I'm down.

What is that missing word?

I've always been pretty certain that Dean Courtney says:

You came with love and a promise to stay-yay and love you just can't walk away.

There's some corkers in the Younghearts too.

This was my crack at the "Baby That's a Groove" lyrics on a thread from 2013. Note: Though you lot think you "own" fish and chips, we ate them in Detroit too!

Two o'clock in the morning

and all the joints have just closed

We picked up a bag of fish and chips

and we headed for this place called home

Love is on our mind, hey hey,

and we're in the mood

It's just a matter of time, oh,

and baby, that's a groove

My imagination is something else

It's like looking through a crystal ball

and what I see looks good to me

as we climb the steps and walk down the hall

Before I put the key in the lock, hey hey,

I just had to stop

because my baby turned and kissed me,

said we've no time to lose

I said, "Good, oh baby, that's a groove"

Sweat was popping off of my face

and [indecipherable lead vocal echoed by what sounds like "shit" from the backing singers] was all over the place

You should have seen my baby move

now that we had found our groove

[MIKE TERRY BARITONE BREAK!]

Put on a stack of fine 45s

like "Nowhere to Run, Nowhere to Hide"

Found our groove and was having fun

We were jumping [jamming? dancing?] to the sound of Junior Walker's "Shotgun"

Sweat was popping off of my face

and fish and chips was all over the place

You should have seen my baby move

now that we had found our groove...[repeat/fade]

My daughter at age six, asked me to play "So Silly Walking". The lyrics "soul city walking" have now been completely lost as far as I'm concerned. I prefer her version!

Wow!

No wonder I have never deciphered that word, my opera knowledge is sadly lacking.

Thankyou Steve, and congratulations on your knowledge of opera!

Bellissimo mate!

Had a bit of a soiree recently with some small-time local music dignitaries, singers and musos and that, spent a considerable time wearing out me BG record trying to cipher that lyric, nobody could get it and I can see why! Did you know it from the Leoncavallo opera or the other tune with it in?

You are a lyrics deity!

Nice to make your (virtual) acquaintance!
