Selecters:

MERV PARNELL (Ledbury, UK):

Age: 47.

First 45: "007", Desmond Decker.

First R&B 45: "Blue Monday", Fats Domino.

First allnighter: Wigan Casino 1974.

Style: pure 50s.

My likes are: R&B, good Northern Soul, Jump Jive, Doo Wop and 50s Teen and Country.

My dislikes are: cheesy Northern Soul and any kind of music that doesn't have a heart.

Outside of music I like: smoking my pipe and collecting 50s clothes.

Best clubs are: the Hideaway, No More Doggin and Shakedown... because it's our club and you can break the rules there!

My current top 5 tunes are:

Rose Mitchell : Baby please don't go (Imperial)

Lillian Briggs: Come here (Sunbeam)

Sarah Vaughan: Mama... (Roulette)

Patty Casey: Yuh move me (Hollywood)

Al McArthur: His true love for you (Two Guitars)

PAUL BENNETT (Stratford upon Avon, UK):

Age: 53.

First 45: "Sock it to em", JB.

First R&B 45: "You better watch your step", Bobby Parker.

First allnighter: Torch Stoke.

Style: 60s R&B and dancing Doo-Wop.

My likes are: R&B, good and forgotten Northern Soul, Beat ballads, Doo-Wop... anything with balls.

My dislikes are: poppy Northern Soul, House and anything after 1968.

Outside of music I like: didn't know there was anything else in life?

Best clubs are: the Hideaway, No More Doggin and Shakedown... because it's our club and we do break the rules there!

Here's a taste of the sounds he'll spin at the Boiler:

Errol Dixon: Mean and evil woman (UK Carnival)

Otis Rush: Keep on loving me baby (Cobra)

Serenaders: Dance darling dance (MGM)

Hollywood Flames: Dance Senorita (Symbol)

Seminoles: I can't take it (Checkmate)

IGU "ALLNIGHTERS" (Vitoria):

Born in Vitoria, 1967, Igu spent ten years fronting The Allnighters, a powerful R&B combo. With them, he faced some of the most bizarre audiences ever, but due to his mastery of both mike and harp, he managed to do well in every case.

He also proved that he was most able to communicate with the audience and bring it to a dancing frenzy - and today he's using the same abilities when Djing his extensive collection of black music records.

His blazing sets, based on the best Soul, Funk & R&B from the 50s to the 00s, carry a trademark seal of quality. From sophisticated Detroit Soul to New Orleans groove, going through sweaty Chicago R&B and the best Deep Funk currently being made in the UK. An intense and extenuating travel that many have experimented through the years - thoroughly tried & tested at his sessions at Radio 3' Satelitres, his residences at clubs such as Bullitt or Hell Dorado, and his sessions at events like Soul Affair, Soul Supreme, Marathon Funk, Euro-YeYe, Funtastic Dr¡cula Carnival ³ Soul4Real.

Age: 39.

First 45: probably any by Secret Affair.

First R&B 45: "I don't need no doctor", Ray Charles.

First allnighter: Rally Barcelona-Lloret 1985, and in UK the 100 Club in 1987.

Style: Soulful R&B, always blazing and danceable.

My likes are: R&B, Soul, Jazz, Funk, Blues... all black music drives me crazy. I like garage music and good Rock'n'Roll as well.

My dislikes are: fascists, corruption and soulless music.

Outside of music I like: my Lambretta, Rioja wine, a good book, sex...

Best clubs are: better than clubs (as there are not many over here), events like S.O.U.L., Euro Ye Ye, Soul Affair, Funtastic Dracula... places where you can find good music and better people.

Some chosen tracks to be played at the Boiler:

Ricky Allen: Cut you a loose (Age)

Jesse Gee: Don't mess with my money (Barry!)

B. W. Souls: Marvin's groove (Round)

Soul Crusaders Orchestra: Pretty lil mama (More Soul)

Harmonica George: Get in the kitchen and burn (Toddlin' Town)

James Rivers: Bird Brain (Eight Ball)

+ RESIDENT DJs: Jordi Dur³ & Cristina Alonso

LAST CALL for The Boiler November 11th 2006 ! Guest Djs: Merv Parnell + Paul Bennett + Igu "Allnighters" + Torsten Matuschek "Matu"

Some last minute comments:

*** Don't forget we have moved to a new venue for this next party: CAFE NOIR, in Plat³ Street 15 (FFCC stop "Muntaner"). We add a jpg with some photos of the new venue.

*** The timetable has changed as well: the party will start at 23:30 h and will finish at 04:30 h. Please be punctual!

*** On Friday November 10th there will be a wellcome party at BARBARA ANN (Taquigraf Garriga Street 163). Djs: Juan Ib¡±ez, Jordi Dur³ & Cristina Alonso. From 0:00 h until 3:00 h.

*** Remember there will be a Records Fair in Barcelona during next weekend.

*** Finally, we have a last minute incorporation as a DJ: TORSTEN MATUSCHEK "MATU" ("For dancers only" Club, Hamburg), who will be doing the warp up from 23:30 h until 0:15 h. So, please again, be punctual.

TORSTEN MATUSCHEK (Hamburg, Germany):Born in 1967 and grown up in the dreary suburbs of Germany's 'Motor City' Wolfsburg where he had been running a bar for several years, he followed the teasing gleam of the northern metropolis Hamburg in 1996 and moved to the city with its seaport-flair and its never sleeping amusement district St. Pauli. He had been working as a DJ even before, but it was here that he began to focus more and more on Black American Music in general and 50s / early 60s R&B in particular, from time to time also plunging deeply into Popcorn. Over the years he established himself as a true landmark in the stormy sea of St. Pauli's nightlife, besides other things he and his companions started a monthly R&B/Soul Club, aptly named 'For Dancers Only', that is going to have its 3rd anniversary this november. As he has been working most of his life in obscure bars at nighttime, the true habitat of R&B Music therefore, he can be described best as not only loving, but also living this style of music!

Here's a taste of the sounds he'll spin at the Boiler:

Titus Turner: Hungry man

Jannie Williams: I've been true

Amanda Love: You keep calling me by her name

Sandra Kay Tucker: Have it your way

Jimmy Clanton: Cindy
