Ann Robinson - Little Miss Lonely / Virtue

Didn't know that one, there was a time the lyrics could have been the theme tune to my life, Sixteen Tons brought back happy memories of my youth , couldn't find the version I used to listen to before I was old enough to actually buy records which puzzled me, age has taken its toll on parts of my recall. Nice selection.

Mine too, managed to grab a cheap one relative to Discogs prices, followed your advice re profit on the record I sold, bought a few re issues but mostly new stuff and originals, it's been a steep learning curve buying again.

Same here with other people's posts, always a source of tunes new to me. Nothing rare or expensive on my list, after listening almost exclusively to tunes purchased in the last year thought I'd play a few long time favourites that more or less chart my taste from being at school. I've bought everything over the years spanning all genres of our great music. Hope you foynd a tune you like.

I never know why people get so troubled by the term Modern Soul. Modern Classical Music began at the end of C19th and ended around the middle of C20th and Modern Jazz started in the forties and ended at the end of the sixties. Some people say Modern Soul is everything since about 1970 but any sensible definition would have the word seventies in there but may also include some late sixties, the eighties and early nineties, but really shouldn't include C21st neo/nu soul. Crossover is jazz-funk; the term was grabbed years ago and in a soul context is entirely meaningless and no two people agree on a definition anyway.

lots of nice records there. I heard the Cilla Black on a mixcloud session, forget which one, then saw Brian Pinches had a YT vid of it, it's a bit of an oddity but could see it working at the right event

Josh Hoyer Better Days one of best 45's of last year imo

Turns out  I have the Cilla Black and it wasn't the one I heard last year, that one was listed on YouTube as Popcorn, started buying records I remember enjoying as a kid before Soul Music took a hold, having older brothers and a sister I was much influenced by them, used to watch all the variety shows with my Mum, funny how some of the artists I enjoyed kind of paved the way for my future love of soul. After hearing Gloria Lynne Tower of Strength at last nights event and playing Cilla I had to give Frankie Vaughan's version a spin.

Pic is some of my 60's collection which thankfully come far far cheaper than the Northern stuff

Last word from me on Cilla, the one I heard was Baby It's You, won't post a link before we are reminded this is a soul music forum, I had a conversation with a Dj mate on NYE regarding the playing of white British pop, Petula Clark was brought up which has been discussed elsewhere, it's not what I'd choose to hear played at an event but people do dance to it and accept it so live and let live, funny thing for me some I know accept Pet but would look aghast if Josh Hoyer were played. The wonderful world of Northern Soul, I was accused of being part of the Soul Police on the same night for expressing an opinion. (Petula is in my 60's collection along with a couple more of hers, I remember vividly being fascinated as a kid when she sang in French, maybe she stirred my later passion for French cinema).

Yep.... takes you back a bit but it was a time for that sort of stuff and that time would have been Cleethorpes. It was played, it was danced to and for those two facts, it has become a Northern Soul record. Yep Joe 90 did it at Wigan, the kid shirt lifter band did it at Cleethorpes... not literally of course. That said Jimmy wasn't too many miles down the road!!!

Been going through some old tapes I did some 25/30 years ago but didn't label and found this one which has got quite a few lesser known (at the time) Motown tracks. A lot of them (if not all) off the budget LPs (MFP/Starline) sold in the likes of W.H. Smith & Woolies which I bought mid 70s ... many containing previously unreleased tracks and many not getting a 45 release.
