Modern & Disco 45’s

Dillard & Johnson - Fairytales come true / Here we go, loving again - Epic / VG+ / £180 (Ignore the title! Killer Piedmont production that is only found on the super rare Epic issue copies. Epic promo doubles sides the far less subtle modern dancer “Here we go, loving again” and Piedmont first press has an instrumental version of the same song on the flip. Record has a few light sleeve marks, plays clean.)

Greg C. Brown - Do you really love me / Slurp - Aquarius / EX/EX / £75 (Super obscure, and rare, 1985 ballad. Boogie flip. Ballad side plays a little crackly despite looking clean, youtube clip plays the copy up for sale. Complete with picture sleeve, pic sleeve has small writing.)

https://youtu.be/fWZCOqVey90

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYuZcI69_t8

L.A. Rick - Strangers - Ronnett / EX / £75 (Nice little obscurity here, feelgood crossover type of dancer.)

https://youtu.be/X2YPHeRBUD0

Ester Byrde - Touch me - take me - Survival / EX / £50 (2 step classic which still sounds great. Also don’t forget the instrumental flip which is amazing in it’s own. Second press, with solid centre and different font from the first press.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOuD42M3yek

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLHAMVvHsyw

Winfield Parker - I wanna be with you - P&L / EX / £50 (Modern soul dance classic that was a £100+ sound before the quantity find in the mid 90’s. Pretty much dried up now so prices are on the rise again.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XokXu-Rt2w

Old (M)Pressions - Right on /  Let me know - Brooks Brothers / EX / £30 (1978 crossover dancer which has been well popular last few years. Flip is a very nice deep soul styled ballad.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TR3utxlumPk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTxmXE2m0gI

Ndugu & Chocolate Jam Co - Take some time / Send you my love - Epic / EX / £20 (Rarer issue copy with boogie flip. Main side for me is the excellent two stepper.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAiAVW84yUU

Hidden Strength - I don’t want to be a lone ranger - UA / EX / £15 (Demo copy of this great uptempo version of the Johnny Guitar Watson song.)

Crossover/Northern/60’s Soul 45’s

Patti & the Emblems - I’m gonna love you a long, long time - Kapp / VG / £450 (Well respected NS oldie and a superb dance track. Radio station copy, styrene original with small red A on flip. Same press that sold on Manship auction last week for £697. VG copy with some staining and light marks, but it plays clean. Labels are clean too.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEyxSPh8pJc

Fabulous Flares - Ain’t no big thing - Hit / VG / £125 (Absolutely lovely take on the Radiants hit by three white teenage girls. Easily best version for me, the vocals makes me melt. Record has many light marks, plays ok but not perfect.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhJcmHpscv0

Top Shelf - Doggone baby I love you / You’re hurting me - Spectrum / EX / £110 (Indemand crossover dancer with a nice soulful slowie on the flip.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldC5huUu-N4

Little Foxes - So glad your love don’t change / Love made to order - OKeh / VG+ / £100 (An absolute pearl! Super soulful girlie soul and a 1968 Mike Terry production with a great dance beat. Flipside is great too. Demo copy complete with company sleeve, record has light marks but plays ok.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mc-BPnypqI

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VX4KQzj6hgg

Leno Phillips - Confusion - Dash / EX (but read description) / £60 (Superb and rare Miami crossover indemander. Bad news with this copy is a pressing flaw which requires extra weight to play through without the needle skipping. Or a player/arm with better tracking - it plays fine on my Linn LP12/Linn Akito arm/2M Ortofon Black setup but require a coin to be placed on the cartridge of my Technics 1210 setup. Flipside plays off centre, there's a vague swaying in the intro of "Confusion" too. Label has a bb hole. This copy is sold as is and I won’t accept a return, price severely reduced.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHjdMs0B5gw

Darrow Fletcher - My young misery - Groovy / EX / £80 (Classic 60’s with a dramatic feel. Label has a barely noticable X. Now hard to find in this nice condition.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8-a55zwYrU

Four Tops - Love music - Probe / EX/EX / £50 (Great version of the Sergio Mendez/etc song which I believe is only available on 45 on this rare japanese pressing. As new copy complete with picture sleeve.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpnuSIm0KHI

Funky/Jazz/Latin 45’s

Wanda Stafford/Lanny Hartley/John Strickland/Jerry Jordan - Happy Sunday / Blue guitar - [no label] / VG / £175 (Two amazing vocal jazz dance sides on a super obscure 45. I had this 45 for some years and was surprised now to see this being re-issued on a 7 inch. Record has light scratches, plays ok but not perfect.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykwzbgyX5dY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WygEA9uU34Q

London Jazz Four - Song for Hilary - Polydor / EX / £75 (Absolutely lovely UK jazz not found on any of their albums. UK original with pushout centre intact, complete with company sleeve. Clean apart from a date stamp and a timing scribble on the “It strikes a chord” side. )

https://youtu.be/WZmZ_4iCfAw?t=642

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSKzHHF-KEw

Chuck Carbo - Can I be your squeeze - Canyon / VG / £70 (White demo of this funk classic with THE intro. Superficial marks only, plays excellent apart from a half second muffled sound in the intro. It doesn’t sound like a cue burn, which are common on this release.)
