Great sportsman, but sadly lacking in the personality department.

But that goes for most of them really.........should be just sportsperson of the year. Murray`s achievement at the O2 makes a mockery of footballers unable to play two 90 minute games in a week!

I think it’s the strongest line up in many years. Repeat champion Olympians like Jason Kenny, Laura Kenny, Nicola Adams have got to be in with a shout and well worth a bet at those odds.

Got to be Andy Murray.......outstanding year for an outstanding athlete!

Everyone has a worthy shout to be SPOTY but I'd have to agree with Murray.  Just about a tournamnet win a month, top of the rankings in afield full of world class players and to play the matches he does and for the length of time, some of them 5 hours long os just phenomenal.

Britain has a lot to be proud of in sport and some outstanding role models unlike the fairies who kick a piece of leather about these days.

is there an argument that the nominations should account for previous or say consecutive winners ?

some sports major events are only in mainstream focus via 4 year cycles
