Hello and welcome to the January 2017 list!

45’s only this time around with some examples from each sector.

Northern Soul – Hesitations 28th Kent anniversary 45, Embracers second ultra rare 45 on Spectrum “Gotta get away”, Paramount 4 on Southern City (don’t overlook the superb ballad flip!) + oldies from Jerry Fuller, Jelly Beans, Jean Stanback and Gerri Taylor.

Crossover – Maxine Weldon “I want Sunday back again”, Moses Dillard “Thank God for this thing called love” (both the UK and ultra rare US copy). Barbara King on Alwa, Brother to Brother super rare issue copy on the Win or Lose label.

Modern Soul – Arthur Foy(!), Right Direction “Midnight rhythm”, Three Prophets on very rare first press. And oldies from Eugene Record and Garfield Fleming and 2 step from Leroy Hutson, Leon Ware, Retta Young and Keith & Darrell.

Deep/Sweet/Group – Also a few big hitters here such Soul Superiors “Don’t blame the children”, Emulations “These are the things”, Emanons “One heart”, Elusions “I’d like to say I love you” and more.

Again – For all paypal payments please make sure I get the payment in GBP. Paypal are clever with their fee structures and standard is now they are trying to convert your payment into the local currency of the vendor. And of course doing so using their crappy exchange rates. So please make sure your payment are being sent in GBP and received in GBP. Paypal will default so that I receive your payment in SEK unless you change to GBP. Also as usual all payment over £150 needs to go with the friends/family option, alternatively if you add 4% to the total to cover the fees.

Best Regards,

Karl

Modern Soul/Disco/2 step 45’s

Arthur Foy – Love dreams / Get up and dance – MCS / VG+ / OFFERS (One of the absolutely best modern soul discoveries of recent years. Stunning soulful midtempo dancer with a quirky dance flip with an insane synth break. Stayed rare and heavily in-demand so taking offers on this as it’s hard to price. Labels are clean, vinyl just shy of EX with a few light marks. Plays excellent.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDz7KJRp8_E

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7QVxW1Bgn0

Right Direction – Midnight rhythm / Got to get next to you – Antaries / VG+ / £450 (Killer Chicago modern soul dancer with a nice ballad flip. Usually seen in way lesser condition. Pressing marks, plays great.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sdboK3zp9c

Three Prophets – I think I really love you – Together / EX / £200 (Lovely feel good dancer! White demo copy. Without arrangement credits and with DJ copy written out. This is the rarest format and I also believe it was first.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejXPa61B-VE

Touch of Class – Love means everything – Midsong International / EX / £175 (Killer feel good modern soul dancer. And well rare only found on the seldom seen issue copies. Nice clean copy complete with company sleeve.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUhXUSfjuP0

Garfield Fleming – Don’t send me away – Becket / EX / £150 (Huge demand for this modern soul evergreen. One that needs to be heard out loud on the dancefloor to be fully understood.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=414cE27wuuo

Liberation – Don’t spread your love around / Take my best shot – GSF / EX / £125 (Very rare issue copy with “Take my best shot” only available here. It’s a superior version to the Lee Mitchell song. The a-side is the side for me though and comes highly recommended.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_xE3rj5SrY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ma7AoaWPSKI

Eugene Record – Overdose of joy – Warner Brothers / EX / £110 (Massive demand for this evergreen modern sou oldie. Clean copy in company sleeve but as initial + date written on label.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eBcNjteWYU

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoMqconV26U

Leroy Hutson – Never know what you can do (give it a try) / In the mood – Curtom / EX / £50 (One of the rarer 45’s on the label with “Never know what…” only available on the issue copies. Killer modern soul dancer with a two step groove. Very nice clean copy complete with company sleeve.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAO2SFOllYc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vn-nd56Y0RU

Carolyn Crawford – If you move, you lose – PIR / EX / £45 (1975 release and untypical for the label but it’s a very good modern soul dancer! Sneaked in on the b-side of the rare issue copies of the release “Good and plenty” it stayed under the radar for a long time and really only was acknowledged wider when re-issued on a 12” in the early 2000’s. Nice and clean copy complete with company sleeve.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfvSR0QYP4I

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsMZVWa12fw

Nyhtjar – Fortune / Nice girls do it too – Rca / EX / £30 (Excellent modern soul with a boogie touch. With the 7 inch only being available on the very rare issue copies.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uN0Kqqc4L6Q

Keith & Darrell – The things you are made of – Tamla / EX / £30 (Ridiculously good two step/mellow groove. These guys are Smokey Robinson’s nephews and there’s a Soul Train clip with them performing this song on which I’m yet to view. Rare one only found on the scarce issue copies, this one has the not recommended “Work that body” on the flip.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuGZrF2TWFY

Sir Wales – What ever you want – Innovation II / EX / £15 (Evergreen modern soul which still sounds great. Here on red lined label design and credited to “Sir Wallace” rather than to “Sir Wales Wallace”. Might be the rarest one, not on discogs with the other multiple label variations. Vinyl copy too, rather than styrene.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8B1pW6_FE_4

Honey Cone feat. Sharon Cash – Somebody is always messing up a good thing – Hot Wax / EX / £15 (Untypical and great release for the label. And much rarer than most on it. Solid modern soul dancer without the gritty feel plaguing most of the labels output. And yes it’s not my fave label/sound. *Smilie*)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=us_Ln_iIE4Q

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLRPppllxlk

Melvin Bliss – Synthetic substitution – Sunburst / EX / £220 (Funky soul classic. Here on the more sought after vinyl issue, logo copy. Flipside label has a small shade like mark.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDHwtC5iv1U

Inell Young – I’ve never considered – Busy-B / VG+ / £150 (Lovely mid-tempo from the What do you see in her lady. Vinyl has a dull stained look but plays great.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKRLKDypgS0

Brother to Brother – I gotta situation / You’re bout to lose the one who loves you – Win or Lose / EX / £100 (Very rare issue only cut on the b-side in “I gotta situation” which is a nice crossover soul dancer. Flip is a strong midtempo cut. As new copy complete with company sleeve.)
