Blair (POKE) Hayden is the promoter and I'm one of the resident DJ's along with Steve Gutteridge and Andy (Smudge) Smith, recently Skip has taken over the 'graveyard stint' and considering his age (must be early 70's) he never ceases to amaze me with the music he plays couple that with the fact that he's technically the best Mic Dj I've ever heard the 1st hour always hits the spot..From Etta James to the Sapphires he's got em all. I followed Skip as I always do and continued the Stamford Soul format that has been so successful over the last three years digging deep and playing stuff that you don't hear out and about at your normal doos. 1-I FEEL STRANGE -THE WONDERETTES 2-EASY BABY - THE ADVENTURERS 3-TAKE ME BACK - THE FLOCK 4-I WANT IT BACK - THE VOICE BOX 5-HELP WANTED - THE VOLCANOES 6-DON'T PRETEND - THE BELLES 7-STOP LOOK AND LISTEN - THE INTROS 8-DO IT WITH SOUL - THE POPPIES 9-AINT THAT PECULIAR - GEORGE TINDLEY 10- SLIPPIN' AROUND - ART FREEMAN 11-LOOKING FOR YOU - KIRK FRANKLIN 12-I'M GONNA GET YOU BACK - THE SYMBOLOICS 13- DON'T WANNA BE A FOOL - LUTHER 14- YOU'VE BEEN A LONG TIME COMIN'-MITCHELL BRAITHWAITE 15-WE GOT TO KEEP ON - THE CASANOVA TWO 16-THE GALLOP-MILTON WRIGHT 17-NOBODY KNOWS - DICKIE WONDER 18-BE'S THAT WAY SOMETIMES - BOBBY WELLS 19-WAIT TILL I GET TO KNOW YA - BOBBY TREETOP 20-I NEED HELP - THE DETROIT LAND APPLES 21- DISCOTHEQUE - CHUBBY CHECKER Russ also asked me to play one of his records as he wanted to hear it loud Smudge followed me at 10pm first record NOLAN CHANCE --Just like the Weather then I was off with the two gals to the City Club which DID effect the crowd at Stamford, I guess Smudge would have kept those entertained with his full repertoire, Brooke Bros, The Del Larks, TJ Williams etc. Numbers were down we suspect due to the big Soul doo in Peterborough 10 miles away however when you've got blokes like Poke and Jodee in attendance moans and groans go owt the window. We're such a philosophical bunch that we all agreed that to have 5 great nights and one bad un is par for the course.
