Broughton Wings

Recommended Posts

Last Saturday, 28th Oct., me and err indoors ventured the fifty odd short miles to the Broughton Wings Club which is part of British Aerospace factory complex just outside Chester, dead easy to find, well signposted and just off the main A55.

It had been nearly two years since our last visit here and had forgotten what a great venue this was for a northern night, massive, well lit car park, smart, clean and well set out venue with ample dancefloor, great sound system for your ear 'oles and air conditioning keeps the dancers at the right temperature!

The bar prices were amazingly cheap, had to ask twice!,friendlly staff and all, stays open 'til midnight

Musically, was a broad range from oldies,newies,6t's 7t's,crossover modern,in other words, SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE.Just a few top tunes that stuck in my mind from the night were Billy Arnell...Tough Girl,Inspirations...Your wish is my command and The Ivories....Please Stay...............Wicked!!

Numbers were a little bit down due to a couple of big niters on and also that it was on the 4th Saturday of the month instead of the usual 3rd.,still attracted about 120 with a venue capacity of about 220.

Resident DJ'S are Brian Ellis and Soul Sam and usually invite a "big name dj" backed up by the best of the North Wales coast dj's playing quality rare soul for the past six and a half years with a specialist Oldies night normally in June but will be running one as the next do in November (18th),also a Motown night in September.

All in all we had a great night, great atmosphere, great music washed down with cheap beer(and what a choice too)A big thankyou to all concerned,John and Carys Elias. :yes:ps in the words of Jimmy Wallace....I'll Be Back......with the misses of course.

Just to add also....record dealers on the night...Chico,Mark Speakman and Keith Minshall,as far as I can remember, thanks and apologies if missed any out,John.

I've been here with the hublet-his dad works at Airbus and it's their social club! Think it only cost £2 door tax and , as John said, the beer was very cheap! I had a great night-slightly embarrassed by Richard's dad joining me on the dancefloor for the Ultimates.... That's an experience I'm not likely to forget

Backdrops  God I hadn't thought about that - it could have been worse :shades: And I have to be honest and say that he made up for it by buying the aforementioned cheap beer all night. I think we'll probably get down there again soon as it's nice and convenient for babysitters although it, unfortunately, usually clashes with the Greatstone which is a bit of a shame.

Just to say thanks to John for the nice write-up. It's good to have some independent feedback on Broughton - I'm very reluctant to publish my own 'isn't Broughton wonderful' reports as people might just see that as out and out advertising.

So I guess that by not shouting from the rooftops constantly about the venue  it does stay a bit out of the limelight and maybe we lose out a little on numbers from time to time.

But you can see from John's 'look back' that we do try to offer a high quality night with top name and local quality DJ line ups. The venue is superb with no expense spared on furnishings and decor, the drinks and door tax are possibly the lowest around, top class air-con system, excellent wooden dance floor, great sound system playing some of the best soul music around......oh no it's starting to sound like an advert!!!

But if you do fancy somewhere different, where you won't hear the same old, same old month-in month-out, you'd be very welcome in this friendly corner of North Wales - see you sometime maybe.
