Here's five I had requested to play on Sunday night back in a pub where I use to do a Northern/Tamla/Classic Soul gig every month, I think the landlord secretly likes a bit of Northern and has missed it. :g:  :hatsoff2:

Jerry Williams - If You Ask Me   Calla

Velvet Satins - Nothing Can Compare To You   General American

Timothy Wilson - I Must Love You  Sky Disc

The Voices Of East Harlem - Cashing In   Just Sunshine Records

The Temptations  - Girl (Why you wanna make me blue)   Gordy

Nice selections - you seem to be busy on the deejay front!

That Voices of East Harlem track I've heard a few times on my travels this summer, definitely popular just now, and as if by magic Soul Brother are bringing out reissues of their 2 later LPs on one cd, with the self-titled LP also getting a vinyl release:

After the Sidney Barnes vs Jerry Cook poll, we could have a 3 way contest with Bob Meyer, Dee Irwin and Chuck Jackson.

Hard to pick just five from Manchester Soul Weekender but here goes

  1. Tonny Hymes - time ain't gonna do me no favours
  2. Sag War Fare - girl you better change
  3. Glen Miller - where is the love
  4. Billy Garner - you're wasting my time
  5. Henning's C/U

The quality of music from start to finish was outstanding, one of the best weekenders I've been to and also had the added pleasure of playing

Tonny Hymes - time ain't gonna do me no favours Very  nice.

That really is nice - never heard it before

I might be being a bit thick here but checking this out on the old You Tube saw the Frederick Hymes faster version which I knew and noticed on the record it is credited as being written by Frederick but on the Tonny Hymes it is credited as written by Tonny, being they have the same surname and sound kinda the same though I'm not 100%sure on that  could they be the same person?

I'm sure there's a thread on here with some details behind this, there's speculation it's the same person but some some say father/son - quite a few threads on Frederick Hymes if you do a search

I love 'Al Foster Band - The Night Of The Wolf'. Not heard it out for a years, except pleasantly surprised to hear it at The Bury All-nighter when Coops whacked it on!

All the best,

Len

I do Len it was the first original record I got my hands on as a youngster when I got into the music and started collecting records, I have only ever heard it played out once at any other gigs in recent years, I have played it a few times myself usually when one of the old school pals is in as he loves it. :) :hatsoff2:

My five from the marvellous Carlton Club last night, very busy once again all the Dj's doing a great job, Big Shed playing a brilliant set celebrating his 60th birthday,

1  Eddie Floyd             Bring It on Home To Me  (brought back memories of the old red Dansette and Mum banging on the bedroom door "turn that down"

2  Peggy Gaines          When the Boy You Love

3  Herman Hitson       Yes You Did

4  Ben E King              Teeny Weeny Little Bit

5  Not so much for the record because I know some people prefer the other version  but just for the fact Andy for once played Millie Jackson House For Sale rather than his usual Mark Williams, little bug bear of mine I like an alternative version as much as the next man but in this case I just don't get it, where's the passion in his version?

You can blame me for the Mark Williams as I sold it Andy. A couple of those I gave to Wayne as presents and a couple Gary played, great tunes. Sorry did not get to talk much with you last night. See you soon.
