Carmel Strings, I hear a symphony, white label??

I managed to pick this up at a flea market for a couple of quid.  The white label say's World Pacific Records with matrix WP466A on the I hear a symphony side and WP467B on the Lovers Concerto side. The label is moulded, not stuck on. The vinyl looks typical 70's quality. Would this be a legit demo pressing or was there a boot of this type known? I wonder why anyone would bother to produce a boot when the original is so cheap to buy. Any info appreciated. Thanks, Tony.

Me thinks if memory serves me right that the first two are boots. But what a great record from the Casino. And this I think first got played in 1977 so 40 years tonight I would probably be listening to it.

Yep that's the one Steve. No doubt I have a boot but a really good sound anyway and worth the 2 quid I.M.O. Still baffled as to why anyone would boot it?? Might make a Frisbee out of it.  Cheers, Tony.

Was played at The Cethorpes Pier Circa 1975 and was a massive record there at the time and Instrumentals very popular during the 70's so just a we bit earlier, It was one of those records that builds and builds up to the ending, my mate has  cassette tapes of some of my spots there with myself Ginger and Eddie,Poke, Chris Dalton etc, although sound quality not that great on but interesting insights of those heady day and nites, So yea I'm Guilty as Charged lol

Thanks Rick. Never got to Cleethorps Pier. It would have taken days from Widnes to hitch it in those days and couldn't have afforded the train.

IIRC the lookalike black and white "audition copy" had poor sound quality, so if yours sounds good it might be proper...

Hey Jerry, The sound quality is perfect on the one I have, and condition of vinyl and labels are really good, no warps etc. It's obviously been well looked after and I doubt it's been played much. Maybe I will resurrect in one of my spots somewhere. I do remember it from Clegg, was a floor packer. Tony.

Station Road for me - sounded much better loud, but it goes in that category of "You really had to be there"...;-)

That was a £15 record at the time so it made sense to boot it, they came out end of 76

Lol. That really was an awful waste of vinyl and studio time wasn't it? No, it wasn't that crappy thing, but most definitely an instrumental. Not played very much, but definitely several times in the main room mid to late 74. Maybe off one of those sounds orchestral type cheapo LPs? I'm 99.99999% sure that it wasn't my imagination or overindulgence in Durophet. Someone out there must know.......pleeeeease!!!! It's doing my head in!

I picked up a mini LP of this with picture sleeve, I remember in the 80's having the younger generation of the time saying why would I want that but I like it and reminds me of my first all-dayer at Reading top rank.

Lol. Had a great many different mental and emotional effects playing on my head back in the early seventies, but hallucinating wasn't one of them!

I agree with the Carmel Strings assessment. Pretty dire when you sit down and disect it, but an incredible buzz when played in the Casino main room. Not nearly as big a buzz as when Afternoon of the Rhino was played though. I swear that in all the clubs and 'Niters I have ever been at, both pre and post Wigan, the atmosphere when that was played has never been beaten anywhere.

I'm definitely not mistaking Tears of a Clown for the JWIMS track. "Tears..." was pretty pi$$ poor IMHO, but again, massive at the time. I have VERY distinct memories of the JWIMS track though, and remain convinced to this day that I didn't imagine it when in my usual weekend fevered condition. I have searched everywhere for a sample of it, and have never found it, so who knows, maybe I wasn't in as full a control of my mental state as I originally believed! And don't get me started on my (again) very distinct memories of a There's Nothing Else To say instrumental being played back then!

That may be the first time I've heard that Henry Jerome track mentioned in well over forty years. Forgotten all about the bloody thing! You're probably right about the rambling. Time for my afternoon nap!

Can't recall an Instr of JWIMS, but I do remember the Disco Strings of Cloud Nine LP - another "wallpaper" instrumental LP which was big for a few minutes!

Yeah, I also recall that Cloud Nine LP. Godawful, eh? 

This is the problem with 1974 though. As that eighteen month period stretching over 1972 / 73 was probably by far and away the most productive period for tunes which were broken and became all-time monsters, '74 was definitely the year of the instrumental. In addition to all the old Wheel and Torch instros still popular, so many new ones were played for just once or twice over the period of a fortnight or so, and then completely dropped from the playlists and consigned to the great dustbin of lost tunes. There have been one or two replies on this thread mentioning instrumentals played back then that I'd clean forgotten even existed. Too many high quality chemicals back then, so maybe my memory isn't all it should be, but I'm absolutely positive about the JWIMS track being played once or twice.

My quest must continue I suppose, Lol.
