Records are a big part of my life but they certainly wouldn't have given me the ridiculous equity amount that I've got in my house now!! Got the majority of the albums back now (and as many again plus that I didn't have at the time) so yes, completely the right decision to sell up. The music can usually be replaced so if it gets you out of a mess then why not, Soul is in your blood, the 45's just remind you of this. Guest toby Posted November 10, 2006 Share Posted November 10, 2006 I sold my first Detroit collection in 1980,it was full of unissued bits and bobs plus all the real big ones of yesteryear and today.i restarted about 10 years ago now and still not got them all back doing my head in due to the fact i sold up too cheap and now huge amounts of money has to be parted with to replace them (dont tell the mrs).. The reason i 1st sold up i got bored with it all ,now i wished i had'nt sold up but thats life we all make big f*** ups in life now and again ,everyone is entitled to one in their lifetime that was mine.. Guest taffy Posted November 10, 2006 Share Posted November 10, 2006 SOLD A NEAR COMPLETE UK COLLECTION IN 1982 JUST BEFORE THEY STARTED TO FETCH BIG MONEY AND A 500+SKA COLLECTION AT 50 PENCE EACH.DON'T REGRET IT BUT WOULD LOVE TO STILL HAVE THEM AND SELL AT TODAYS PRICES.SOLD 2 BIG IMPORT COLLECTIONS IN THE 90'S ALSO. Wilxy Posted November 10, 2006 Share Posted November 10, 2006 Have had to sell up on a few occasions through various reasons,and now realise I could have retired early if I'd had kept them all til now Alas if life was so simple First collection went late 70's whilst working for British Steel, and having to strike Sold a better collection late 80's due to finances Then probably my best collection when I got divorced and moved away and needed a new motor due to still travelling back and forth from Cheltenham to Newport for work (which I still do) OK probably a bit of choice there, but blamed the scene I suppose and fell out of love with it for a few months :angry: . John Reed Posted November 10, 2006 Share Posted November 10, 2006 It is a tough call and I'm going through the process of selling my Northern bits. I took the decision that with all of the CD's that have been released over the last few years and the music I have digitised, I can hear them on my Ipod or CD whenever I want. Although there is nothing better than holding the disc in your hand, but in my case they were all boxed up collecting dust. I am using the money from the sales to buy Deep, 70's and 80's tunes that you don't hear out or have not been released on CD and probably never will. I thought: Did I need the money and would I (potentially) be able to buy them back, and I think that I will be able to buy them back (although probably at a premium to what I originally paid/sold them for). I think a big part of collecting is searching out for records, which I still enjoy doing. If you need to sell due to personal issues, then sell. Because at then end of the day, it's only a bit of plastic and I know that I would you rather have a house and a marriage rather than a brilliant collection. Problem Is This Music Never Leaves You , It Only Takes A KFC Advert To Get Feet Tapping . You Need To Be Very Careful If My Wife Hears Me Playing NS Or In Here Its , Oh, Youll Be Back Doing Them Allnighters Again , This Was Probably My Own Fault As I Went Out Too Often ,Spent Too Much On Records And Did Far Too Much Of The Other Stuff. If I Knew Then What I Know Now I Would Have Tried To Find A Happy Medium Instead Of Knocking It All On The Head. When You Have Been An Allnighter regular Normal Going Out Is Crap ,Even After 8 Years . I Was Going Through The Events Section On This Site And Theres Probably More Things On Now Than Ever ,Hears A Question If There Was As Many Venues In The 70s As There Is Now Would The Casino Have Lasted So Long ?
