Popular Post Mark R Posted June 8, 2017 Popular Post Share Posted June 8, 2017 (edited) On the eve of the 25th Cleethorpes Weekender, and instigated by Ady announcing he was taking a step down and the ensuing uncertainty as to whether it would continue, I felt encouraged in the last few weeks to look back at some Modern Room plays of mine from over the years. It's easy these days to keep playlists and it's become a bit of a habit for me, but it does mean that you can accurately look back at what's been played at various venues which I know many enjoy to do in the same way I do. Of course it's easy to list a load of tunes and it means naff all without some context: atmosphere, dance floor and/or listeners depending on when the set was played............and everything else that goes with it, but at least the info's at hand. I know it's not renowned for it's new music content like some weekenders are, but contrary to popular belief a few have us have persisted with the new stuff over the years and continue to do so in amongst some classics/dusties. Here goes then 2004-2017 inclusive, and can any Clegg regulars hazard a guess at my most repeat play? I found that there was one straight soul cut and one soulful house cut that were each played a lot more than any of the others listed, but which ones?..............buy the first person to get it/them a pint! It's not the kind of gig where very modern records make it to the main room, though clearly the more 70's sessions or sets that are played in the Modern Room, then the likelihood of some crossover (!) increases. Unthinkable that a record would see airtime in both rooms. In some ways it's a good thing that the very best records can transcend from one to the other.
