Hello all -

I recently met Russ Vickers so after speaking with him last night I decided to check out his name online. Naturally after a few Google clicks, fate brought me here! I'm a mostly funk-oriented DJ in North Carolina and put on several gigs where we play solely original-press 60s-70s funk, northern+southern soul, deep soul, latin, reggae and other great vintage sounds.

What prompts me to post is not only to say hello to Russ (nice talking to you sir), but also to bring attention to a fact related to another thread regarding "Who would play your last soul gig ever." To wit: a few months ago we actually had Guy Hennigan in town, and he DJ'd not only one, but TWO gigs with A FEMALE CO-DJ!!! The girl in question was Miss Shingaling, they both did a great job playing the tunes, and both were excellent dinner companions for the two nights they were here. Here's the three of us at one of my other gigs that weekend:

Anyway, I saw that there's a "NCSoul" person on here, so if you indeed are in North Carolina, give me a shout! We do a dancefloor gig the first Saturday of every month (with gogo girls!), and a bar gig every other Thursday, both events in Durham. I also DJ bhangra and bollywood parties but I doubt ya'll are interested in that! My website is https://www.solidsoundsystem.com/ and you can check schedules there.

I'll probably revert to lurking mode for the time being as I admit that my knowledge of northern soul is quite minimal, but in closing I'll give you an idea of what we spin by posting my playlist from when Guy & Shingaling were here. You'll notice that my selections are bit across the board, but hey that's how we do it here in NC!

Sorry Marco,

NC is not North Carolina, not even close, but I can dream about the go go dancers!

I spent a week in North Carolina during my honeymoon and it was very enjoyable. Went all over the place - Outer Banks, Asheville, Raleigh .. basically right across the whole state. Very pretty place and highly recommended to anyone who has never been.
