I had a bit of a soundtracky session myself on Saturday night, including the aforementioned "Cheetah"... not much soul in there mind....

David Newman - Shiloh

Quincy Jones - Snow Creatures  (The Heist OST)

Frank Strazzeri - Cloudburst

Serge Gainsbourg - La Horse

Mandingo - The Cheetah

Johnny Harris - Stepping Stones

Charles Kynard - Smiling Faces Sometimes

Johnny Hammond - Los Conquistadores Chocolatés

On Sunday I felt the need for a bit of musical sunshine though......

The Reflections - She's my Summer Breeze

Roy Ayers - Everybody Loves the sunshine

Lowrell - Mellow Mellow

Gene Harris - Losalamitoslatinfunklovesong (Bugz in the attic mix)

Kool and the Gang - Summer Madness

Martine Gialt  - Revival

Bobbi Humphrey - Harlem River Drive

Sivuca - Ain't No Sunshine

Ramsey Lewis - Sun Goddess

Cameo - The Sound Table

I think you refer to MARTINE GIRAULT, I have this tune (from "The Masters Rare Grooves" comp.), a good "lounge" groove IMHO. I likes a lot the gospel flavoured harmonies by The Reflections in the tune you have mentioned and particualry on his cover of "Three Steps From True Love" that I prefer than the one (also very good) by Billy Davis, Jnr. The mellow "Summer Madness" is jointly with "Funky Stuff" my two favorites by Kool & The Gang. And Roy Ayers is one of my all time heroes. The "last" (??) cover by "Everybody Loves The Sunshine" (apart from the one by Incognito) I have is by UK Soul Society from their album "Smiling Faces" featuring Maceo Parker and Roy Ayers. Ramsey Lewis is another hero of mine from my teens since I purchased "Solar Wind" album with the great "Jamaican Marketplace". "Sun Goddes", "Don' It Feel good", "Salongo",... those fantastic fusion albums belongs to the "OST" of my life. We should to bought that The Ramsey lewis Trio was seminal in the fusion scene as there was so many spin-off acts who started with Rmsey as Young - Holt Unlimited, Maurice White, Cleveland Eaton,...

Frank Strazzeri - Cloudburst

I absolutely love that track Jimmy !

Frank Strazzeri's 'After The Rain' lp  which Cloudburst is taken from is a glorious record ..I've got a very nice Japanese reissue of it from around 2000/01 and it sounds awesome.

I didn't know anything about Frank Strazzeri tbh but I liked Cloudburst so much I took a chance on the album ..top notch it is too, reminds me a lot of the type of great Jazz Fusion records Eddie Henderson was knocking out in the mid 1970's for Blue Note in particular.

Yeah, I bought a french Big Cheese compilation LP in the 90's with that one on it, I loved the style of spacey jazz funk so much I hunted down all the original LPs (apart from one or two).

What stands out for me on "After the Rain" is the amazing drumming, I'm sure you've noticed as well being a breaks man.

Cheers Josep, of course you are correct, it was Martine Girault, featuring those lovely mellow keyboards sampled from Tom Scott.

I'd say I've got more LPs by Ramsey Lewis than any other artist (apart from maybe Herbie Hancock) He's the master of all styles of jazz and funk from the 60's to the 80's!

It's Frank's son, Steve Strazzeri who plays on 'After The Rain' and yeah he's a damn fine drummer as you mentioned.

Oh yeah,I think it's a killer performance ..one of my absolute favourite Funky Soul tracks.

'The Baby Huey Story' lp is a terrific record..such a talented artist and a protege of Curtis Mayfield no less...such a shame he threw his talent away to heroin and lost his life at the age of just 26.

The album was eventually released posthumously which is doubly sad.

If he had lived I reckon he could have been absolutely phenomenal.

what a waste.

Eclectic and rich "track-list", mate. I got "Sylvia's Picture" by Bebu Silvetti (also on Salsoul label) on a high consideration, so mellow. curiously, my mother likes a lot some of the classic "divas de la canción española" as Rocío Jurado who have many songs writed, produced and / or arranged / conducted by this great musician from Argentina who lived here in Spain during years. "Spring Rain" was also the music for some spanish TV and Radio programs.

Ex Fifth Dimension beautiful, sexy woman Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis (I think wife and husband,...?) also signifies to me some good remembrances from my teens, specially with "Look That You've Done To My Heart" and, when I worked as barman in a "macro - discotheque" in my later years as student, the little "soulful" stuff the DJ's played was Trammp's "Hard Rock & Disco", Leon Haywood's "Don't Push It Don't Force It" and Marilyn McCoo & Billy davis, Jr, 12 Inch "Shine On Silver Moon"!

Great stuff and, as a Philly Soul lover as I am, I appreciate the Philly ones. I remember when I was aged 14 years - old and purchased my copy of "Let's Clean Up The Ghetto" (first on k - 7, after on vynil) and "Old People" captivated me as a totally different Drell's song I have heard before: the "high energy" usual on "Can't Stop Dancing" or "Let's Groove" is not here, is a mid-tempo with a touch of mellow mood... the title track, "Trade Winds", "The Big Gangster" and this one were immediately favorites of mine... until present day! Executive Suite, Anthony White, Tapestry, Jackie Moore, Major Harris ones are also IMHO masterpieces of Philly Symphonic Soul. The one by Corner Boys & Friends I discovered much more recently in the "Philadelphia Roots" by Soul Jazz UK label 2 CD's. They are a songwriters / producers / artists team who have worked under different names in Detroit (Motown as Silent Majority, I think) and Philly (on Neptune and PIR as songwriters and Philly outside productions).

I lkes a lot the tunes by Brainstorm where the voice of Belita Woods (she was a solo act on Stax) is prominent as on "We're On Our Way Home". I have had also a very good track in a domestical k-7 by Ron Banks (from The Dramatics) and Belita Woods.

Here's the ones I have heard since I'm wake up this morning in the Mac I-Tunes (I have around 2.500 songs, downloaded from CD's and some that I have bought at I-Tunes store):

- Bunny Sigler: "Marianne"

- Bunny Sigler: "Half A Man"

- Breakwater: "Release The Beast"

- The O'Jays: "You Are The One"

- Arp Life: "Bu Bu"

- Bob James: "Sign Of Times"

- Donald Byrd: "Veronica"

- Candy Dulfer: "Lily Was Here" (Live)

- Change: "Change Of Heart"

- Ekseption: "Smokey Sunset"

- Honey Cone: "Sunday morning People"

- Incognito feat. Chyna: "Crazy For You"

- Focus: "House Of The King" (the symphonic rock group featuring the flute player and solo artist with stuff produced by Bob James, Tys Van Leer)

:D It's an ironical comment...? "Tell Him" is da bomb (I don't knows who are the male vocalist in the intro - "pom, pom, pa-do-ba-dom")... a favorite of mine since my teens:

I dunno mate..no offence Pete but I love the fact that people post up their playlists, personally..some of this stuff is pure sonic gold.

One of the main reasons I joined Soul Source is because of the absolute wealth of knowledge that's openly shared on this forum and the potential of discovering music i've not heard about is the best thing I could want from my own point of view as I'm finding new things to listen to almost every time that I visit this site...

Hey Shufflin!

Don't stop adding to the thread on my account - as I said I'm just one opinion. Sometimes its good to keep things fresh and start new threads. Dave's long standing record of the day is good for posting records from the collection - that thread is kept fairly fresh as the rules say one record a day. Sometimes Dave does have to remind people.

But hey bro, keep on posting.

I think that some of the recent posts may have put some people off. The original question is if you were dj'ing for yourself, it doesn't state that you only have one turn. I listen to my records 2-3 nights per week. It is like asking you to name your top 10 (in most cases this will change on a daily, weekly or monthly basis) so i think that multiple posts are fine (plus i like to see what other people are listening to).

With that in mind here is my playlist for tonight.

01: Lulu- Stop fooling around (UK Decca)

02: Dolly & the Fashions- The right one

03:Popular five-Ii'm a love maker

04: Players- Why did i lie     (i so love this)

05: Alder Ray- I need you,baby

06: Al Wilson- Be concerned

07: Sapphires- Our love is everywhere

08: Lou rawls- Love is a hurtin' thing

09: Ronnie Dyson- i don't wanna cry

10: Bobby Caldwell- Love won't wait   (another cracker)

11: Bobby Wilson- Here is where the heart is    (ditto)

12: The Wanderers- A little to long

Friday's my usual night for a few beers and a reminisce. I line up things like this on the tube and go for it. From the smallest collection on ss, didn't have many options left after choosing the favourites on OV.

Starting to play a few R&b and like to put them in some sort of 'the early days onwards' sort of order but still an oldies freak.

Moments - Don't Take Your Love From Me

Roscoe Shelton - Question

Fred Hughes - I Understand

Dynatones -The Fife Piper

Platters '65 - Run While It's Dark

Dreams - Jesse James

Dells - Wear It On Our Face

Ovations - They Say

Watts 103rd - Brown Sugar

Dells - Run For Cover

J J Daniels - Mr Lonesome

Jackie Ross - Take Me For A Little While

Babies - The Hand Of Fate

Barbara Mercer - Hey

Bill Withers - Harem

Larks - Philly Dog

Sapphires - Gotta Have Your Love

Joshua &Moses Dillard - My Elusive Dreams

Fantastic Johnny C - Don't Depend On Me

Fantastic Four - As Long As I Live (I Live For You)

The last track is their best for me.

Calibro 35 Superstudio-Record Kicks

Is that the same Deep Sensation that did the 'Harlem & 42nd Street' track Shufflin ?

Its a nice tune.

Good choice with Calibro 35' there also btw...I really like some of their music and Record Kicks is a dope record label too ..The Third Coast Kings are a pretty decent band on there with a couple of nice releases which are also worth checking in my opinion.

If I should to play 20 instrumentals that I have on vynil as a "personal jam session / private groove party" these were the ones (favorites of mine since my teens!):

- The Pac-Keys: "Diggin'" - ("Soulin', Vol. 1", Monshine compilation LP)

- People's Choice: "Mikey'Ds" ("Boogie Down USA" PIR LP

- MFSB: "K-Jee" ("Universal Love" PIR LP); the organ by Leon Huff and the "rock" guitar part by the late T.J. Tindall made me prefer this cover than the original by Nite-Liters

- MFSB: "Something For Nothing" (B side of "TSOP", PIR 45)

- MFSB: "Fortune Teller" ("Mysteries Of The World" PIR LP)

- Ramsey Lewis: "Jamaican Marketplace" ("Solar Wind" Columbia LP)

- Booker T & The MG's: "Melting Pot" ("Takin' You There" Stax comp. LP)

- Isaac Hayes: "Ellie's Love Theme" (B side of "Do Your Thing" Stax 45)

- Isaac Hayes Movement: "After Five" ("Disco Connection" ABC / Hot Buttered Soul LP)

- Isaac Hayes: "Shaft, II" ("For The Shake Of Love" Polydor LP)

- Curtis Mayfield: "Junkie Chaise" (B side of "Freddie's Dead" Buddah 45)

- Dexter Wansel: "Them From The Planets" ("Life On Mars" PIR LP)

- Chick Corea: "La Fiesta" ("Return To Forever" ECM LP)

- George Duke: "Echidna's Arf" ("The Aura Will Prevail", MPS / Basf LP)

- CTI All-Stars: "People Makes The World Go Round" ("Live In L.A." CTI LP)

- Cleveland Eaton: "Daydream" ("Half & Half" Gamble LP)

- Crusaders: "Allucinate" ("Chain reaction" ABC / Blue Thumb LP)

- Herb Alpert: "Beyond" (A&M 45)

13: Richard Berry- Have love will travel

14: Magictones- Happy days

15: Lou Perry- Bring back your love

16: Clyde McPhatter- I'll belong to you

17:Blossoms- There's no greater love

18: Cecil Parker- Really really love you   (Brilliant)

19:Janice Bulluck:- Do you really love me  (ditto)

20: Tower of power- So very hard to go

Nice to see 20 tunes, someone read the original post😄😄 yeah the whole idea isn't what you'd play in yr record room, it's what you would like to hear on a dancefloor, using yr own 45's/lp's. As someone said , that playlist will change depending on mood so please post another 20.....no more, no less!!!!
