Bought myself a Christmas present...there's 196 of them altogether

I received some fantastic information concerning those UK acetates I got last week, from Sean Hampsey, I'm sure Sean won't mind me sharing it.

 

Those initials on the labels: GE, VG, Ks etc. These are the initials of the engineers who cut the acetates. The photo below is the key to who's who. You may recognise a couple, Ken Scott for instance went on to produce Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust, Geoff Emerick worked with The Beatles on Sgt Pepper, The White Album and Abbey Road.

 

Sean also says: These guys all have incredible history and worked on some of the most famous releases of the 60's. Proper Authentic 'in the studio' stuff. There are three types of Emidisc Acetate Pete (apart from elicit) a) Reference b) Production c) Promotional. These will all have been part of the small handful of 'Select Radio' 'Advance Airplay Publicity' copies. Very nice indeed mate.

 

So basically if anyone makes the slightest suggestion that these may not be authentic, show them this :-)

That's very interesting, I have a Helen Shapiro acetate from an Abbey Road session in '65 - same handwriting, with KS initials. It always reminded me of Max's handwriting - I even asked him once, and he said, no, not him.
