Soulfulsolutions
Up for grabs just the one juicy Mid-West soul rarity, open your ears and feast on this thumping dancer with huge potential…... Message any questions or to reserve Holidays featuring Billy Wicks – I’m the one who really loves you – Thunder Ex+ £350 These aren’t your normal Holidays of Detroit fame, this little known outfit rom Springfield, Illinois, had 3 releases on the Dixie Label been 64-66. This 1967 Thunder label release is an RCA Custom matrix number, recorded at Golden Voice studios in South Pekin, Illinois. Billy Wicks was the front man for “Im the one (who really loves you)”, however his relationship was short lived as it became their last recording before the group changed their name to the Fugitives in Dec 67. The Fugitives went on to have a number of recordings on other Michigan and Illinois labels, most notably D-Town. What happened to Billy is a mystery. This this obscure gem of a northern soul dancer thrives on great lead vocals, pulsating male group backing and one hell of a sax break. With only a handful of copies surfacing over 40 plus years, the only other for sale today on Manny’s site, this has got some legs for the right DJ. Up for grabs just the one Mid-west rarity, open your ears and feast on this thumping dancer with huge potential…... Holidays feat. Guest Kerstin Wicks
Quote Billy Wicks is my father. He was killed in a motorcycle crash in 1973. My father and 4 friends started The Holidays when he was in high school and he was always the lead singer of "The Holidays" and was so on all of the recordings. The Holidays were not a Detroit band. They played throughout Central Illinois and won the Battle of the Bands in 1968 at the Illinois State Fair. They were always based out of Springfield, Illinois. He did not leave The Holidays; the group split in 1969 as several members became fathers and husbands. 2 members of The Holidays went on to continue their professional music careers. The Fugitives had one of the original members of The Holidays. He wasn't even in The band anymore when he joined The Fugitives.
