Epic Detroit dance floor destroyer. Fair price too so don’t sleep! Visual grade: M-, very slight warp NAP €500 Spice – For old times sakes / The jam – Carrie 1001 Super deep, rare as hen’s teeth duet that always reminds me of Eunice Collins with its subtle instrumentation. I don’t think you’ll ever see a cleaner copy. Visual grade: M- €350 The Soul Machine – You’d better watch your fox / Hang on – Sudden Sound 2707 Funky edged northern stormer from Baltimore. Visual grade: M- €250 Damn Sam The Miracle Man – Give me another joint / Damn Sam The Miracle Man – Tay-Ster 0003 DJ Copy Two of the best tracks from the Holy Grail Detroit funk LP on one 45. Storage warp but tracks fine at normal tone arm weight. Visual grade: M-, warp NAP €250 Bill Bailey – Can we afford / Peace making time – Bollman International Records 5007 Heavyweight Texas rarity with a message that pretty accurately conveys our present-day feelings. I was blown away when I first dropped the needle on this. Visual grade: EX €200 Keith Chism & Light – My life and song / An everlasting love – Carrie 3105 Modern gospel mover that’s just starting to appear on people’s radars. Visual grade: EX €150 Bad Medicine – Trespasser Pt I/II – Enyx 002 The drum break is an all-time classic but the combination with the heavy bass line and inspired synths makes it a strong personal fave that seldom leaves the play box. Visual grade: EX €130 The Capprells – Close your eyes / Walk on by – Bano 100 Essential dance floor mover out of Pittsburgh with driving crisp funk breaks throughout. Visual grade: M- €100 Royal Force – Funk with you / Losing you – Royal Force 101 Private boogie funk from Byron Bordeaux who also did Paradise’s Love under his own name around the same period. Visual grade: M-, slight warp NAP €100 Master Four – Love from the Far East / It’s not the end – Tay-Ster 6024 DJ Copy 1968 northern mover with a Far East theme. The band later went on to back up Jimi Hendrix as the Ghetto Fighters. Visual grade: M- €100 Lavell Hardy – What kind of woman / Soul fever – Rojac 119 Beautiful mid-tempo 60s soul. One of the harder ones to track down on the label. Visual grade: EX, slight warp NAP €80 The Eldees – Don’t be afraid to love / You broke my happy heart – Dynamics 1013 Under the radar sixties Detroit magic, written by Dewitt Yancey aka J-Dilla’s father. Visual grade: M- €75 Arthur Ponder – Oh baby why you want to make me cry / Let’s get together for the wrong we have done – Crow 60 An all-time deep soul fave and one of the highlights from the recently found Flaming Arrow / Crow titles. Can only go up in value once people realise how good this is. Visual grade: M-, warp NAP €60 Grand Strand – Laredo / Ain’t no time – Creative Arts Studio 1916 Funky edged private South Carolina AOR. Visual grade: M-, slight warp NAP €60 Black Nasty – Hip drop / Mama didn’t lie – Tank 503 Two slices of Detroit funk. Super clean copy. Visual grade: M- €55 The Natural Resource – Hey foxy lady / Hold back the dawn – Dore 909 Sweet Cali ballad backed up with a mid-tempo popcorn mover. Visual grade: M- €50 Marc LaRoi Cummings – Struggling together / Lots of love – Setting Sun 002 Two superb sides on this essential Detroit modern 45. Visual grade: M- €45 Ike Strong – I owe my life to you / Since I lost my baby – Bama 001 Crossover winner that sounds just right for today's scene. A steal at this price and in this condition. Visual grade: M-, slight warp NAP €40 Spot & The Blotters – Circulating / Soul circle – Equal 459601 Gritty funk 45 from Grand Rapids, MI. Visual grade: M- €30 Carmen – Time to move / Instrumental – Presents 001 Early 80s Kevin McCord production that’s guaranteed to do the trick on the dance floor. Visual grade: M-, slight warp NAP €30 Vass Corporation – All the love we lost (Kenny Dope Mix) / One more day – Kay-Dee 018 Amazing sweet soul that was never released until it was discovered by a local collector and put out on Kenny Dope’s label in 2008. Still not widely picked up but essential stuff IMO. Visual grade: M- €30 Somerset – Do me baby, do me Pt I/II – Dazia 3548 Detroit modern killer that sounds like $500+ but isn’t.
