How's Leighton buzzard now a days Neal ? l use to love going to the unicorn club and buzzards hall many moons ago,  the towns got quite a bit of northern soul history l'm  sure there's many of Old odd folk on here that will share their memory's with you  welcome aboard

Hiya mate it’s not what it was that’s for sure the unicorn is gone and our night is the only one in town really? Plenty Soulies, mods and skins and I know a few people who went to the unicorn. This is why we were so hell bent in starting something. Here because of the history of this town for soul. Our next night is May 31st I’ve put up an event if you’re interested in commmg along.

Hello My name is Chris. I have loved Soul music all my life. Ex 80’s club DJ and still playing tunes  most weekends to people who want to dance. My partner is called Maz and we just love to dance and just want to meet up with like minded folk.👍👍😎

Hi, my name is Debbie Massey

As a young Northern Soulie, my early years on the scene 74-81. Just a bit too young to have visited The Torch and Twisted Wheel (sadly) but lived the dream every weekend at amazing venues: Manchester Ritz, Blackpool Mecca, Wigan, Notts Palais, Birmingham Le-Carno, Matlock Pavilion and many more. Marvellous times.

Then adult work life Take-over followed by family Take-over.

Now beautiful teenage daughter moved on. It's back to the Northern way of life Take-over. And I'm hitting the scene and dance floor with mad crazy vengeance. Once again living the dream and loving every minute.

Hi Debbie! Your story sounds just like mine. Great to have another lady on board; there aren't enough of us contributing on here. My favourite areas are the events page, photos page, all about the soul forum and, in the Freebasing section, "Show us your great photos". The photos aren't necessarily soul related but we have some exceptionally talented photographers who post their amazing images on there.  🤗

Hello! My name is Janet. I was a Motown staff songwriter in the 1980s. I’m currently researching a project inspired by the lesser-known stories of Motown. I would love to send a communication to Andy Rix.

And thank you for having such an informative, fascinating site!

Hi All

I have been lurking for many years. Got round to finally joining during lockdown, as it seems a nice friendly place in a world of  faceless, (often nasty) social media.

Got into Northern Soul from an early age (when it was a new fad) in NW England. In fact I was still at Primary school and saw Footsie on TOTP and all the older kids getting into it, so jumped on.....

I had no idea it would be a lifelong love affair and a stable through the ups and downs of life!

Started going to Wigan in my early teens till it closed.

Then moved onto Jazz-Funk / Modern Soul / boogie /Jazz / reggae (particularly Lovers Rock).

Local night at that time for us was Newton-le-willows Cricket Club with Kev Edwards. Also went to Manchester Ritz, Parkers etc at that time.

Mooched round that scene for many years and now incorporate Soulful House as well.

General likes nowadays broadly in line with Colin Curtis.

Always been an ardent lover of the music, but had not been to any functions for many years.

Just started back on the Modern / Jazz Funk / Soulful House scene.

Looking forward to joining on the many varied topics.

Hello everyone.

Where to start!

Been a Northern Soul enthusiast for well on 40 years and loved every second of every record I have ever danced to. Not so much dancing these days with my dodgy knees which has to be the worst thing about getting old when your heart is bursting to get on the floor and bust some moves but your head is telling you to stay seated 😒

Stay happy and Stay safe.

Lenny.

Been into Soul music since I was a member of Samantha's club in regent Street, London. Used to meet many musicians there - great crowd. I frequent soul events in my locality to dance and enjoy myself.  Taken to listening Soul Archive on tuesdays and its just great music and brilliant DJ's; gets my feet tapping. I run my own dances in a local social club for a different type of music but Soul is never far away. stanthedance

Just a quick 'hi' and to say I've been into soul music since 1975 when my older brother used to listen to Radio Luxembourg's 'Black Fridays' and all this amazing music was being played - amazing to a 10 year old living in Kent anyway. Look forward to reading forum posts and browsing the market place. Regards, Clive

Thankyou! I'll have to travel around a bit since there's not much on in my neck of the woods. Although I'm happy to be proved wrong!

Hi Ruby,

you'll find that travelling around becomes the norm, how remote are you?  You might find there are other keen travellers living close that could ease you into the allnighter/ weekender scene.

Welcome to Soul Source

Hello Dave. I'm in Glasgow which isn't remote at all😄 but in terms of 'the scene' there is next to nothing happening!

I'm sure you'll find some people up that way that travel, and probably not that far a distance.  There's a few Caledonians that are long term soulies and are still living the life.

Good luck

Dave

Morning Susie. Welcome to soul source.  Enjoy the site and the many records that are posted in the media section.  Most people on here are not that far from being residents in care homes themselves and some should have been put into care 🙃🤣🤣

Hi, I'm Johnny Corsair, I've just noticed this thread and have posted on here a few times already - so instead of coming in through the back door, I'll come in through the front.

64 yr old music fan. All sorts of music but particularly soul. Worked way back as freelance journalist on music & football. For 5 minutes, while it was still going, I did the book reviews for a magazine called Soul CD (in the 90's)

Worked in a record shop for a number of years (top of Brixton Rd nr Oval) - specialising in soul & reggae. The years of Danny at Record Corner (Balham) and Mark Lessner (Soul Trader)

Have started a monthly music podcast called Bright Lights Big City playing Soul (old and new) RnB, Old Blues, Gospel & Doo Wop & Ska & Reggae. The link is below for quick reference  but I'm aware that it's been requested for podcasts that it's more user friendly to also have the playlist available on this Forum which I totally get and will do that on that thread also.

https://johnnycorsair9.podomatic.com/

Since being on here there's been some great new releases flagged up and some will feature in the next show and future shows. And some great replies to a queryof mine re: backing singers on a Wilson Pickett song. So thanks to all for that. I look forward to contributing and learning from here.

Hi to all on S/S I'm a new member on here. Well not entirely true I've been using S/S for years thought it was about time I joined. I bought my first soul record in early seventies four tops it's all in the game. ( Still got it. ) From there onto motown and then onto northern soul. I like ( or should I say have an addiction for that round black plastic disk it's worse than drugs ) and have an ear for all types of soul deep , funk , blues, modern but my main preference is Northern. I will be putting records up for sale on here and I'm assuming there are a lot of people who have bought of me in the past that are on this site . For those that know me whether from sales or I've met on on the northern scene then you will know I am 110 per cent genuine.

Best regards and stay safe.
